i have the same setup as you have and I have taken the rear fender off.
I have seen how it is mounted and I believe the two bolts either from the kit or the k-drive will have to be modified or possibly shortening the support bracket in order to use the quick release back rest on the outside of the side cover as is I do not think you can mount the kit bolts in place of the K-DRIVE bolts
