Project bike wanted.

mate I've been looking for a long time for the same thing. Been to look at about 3 but as keen as I am I am not prepared to get ripped by a dickhead who knows he has a saleable item to an enthusiast. I'll pay any reasonable price but one example was $7000 for (as far as I can remember) a 1962 Thunderbird with about a third of it missing and there was the same bike on Bikepoint in running order for the same price.

Yeh some crazy prices out there , i guess if the market will pay it guys will have a crack wacking big dollars on bitsas or bikes with 'a third missing'.... always the hard to get bits too .. a trap for the unwary and unwise for sure.

,
7k,s a bit rich ,back in the day I paid $300 for a early 60's ex police pre unit .it had a little carrying rack on the tank . Lovely old bike ,reliable 4speed with a 650 cc motor .

I sold the 69 TR6 that's in my photos for $800.00 and traded the 72 TR6 on a new Kwaka 1000. Got $1350.00 for it when the Kwaka was $3400.00 made money on both of them thought I was doing pretty good. I wish I still had the 69 but in them days when I had no money $800.00 was about 2 months wages. If I could have kept it then I would have turned it in to money sooner or later.

Yep , if only a bloke would have known. Bought my first Triumph when i was 16 years and 10 months old ... was working as a storeman at Wackers ( that ended when i was taken away in handcuffs by the jacks , another story ;)) bike was a 8 month old 1973 650 Tiger .. paid less than $1,000 for it. You could buy a brand spanking new Norton Hi-Rider for $1,600 .. Wackers reduced the price cause the Norton guys didn't like'em .. You could buy ****ty pre-70's Triumphs for 200 to 300 bucks. Remember we swapped a carton of KOOL cigarettes with another gang of little thugs for a complete pre-unit rolling chassis. We used to push it up the local hill and take turns in seeing who could swerve the closest to the parked cars without hitting them.. we were all 14 or 15 years old :D

I'm scouring the Craigslist and whatnot for you Tomcat. I saw a barn find 650 a month or so ago but none since. Something will pop up I'm sure.

Even if I'd known I don't know if I could have afforded to keep any of them. I needed to be in the financial position I'm in now 35 years ago
