If you look at land speed records, the flats tend to be slower than hardball surfaces. The S1000RR that did 197 at the flats had a different air filter, tune, full disassembled engine that was perfectly balanced and all bearings clearanced, and it had some streamlining work done inlcuding all new fairings and weight reduction. Meanwhile, in germany, there is a 100% stock S1000RR that took the mirrors off, no other changes and recorded 202mph on pavement....
