Please help......must....resist....want....Rocket...now.

If you can afford the payment.. then go for it!.. :) You already qualified for the 3.9% financing, which is a good rate.. You must have atleast a decent credit rating, motorcycle financing is generally harder to get than almost any other. Sell or trade-in
your current bike and get the Rocket.. :)

I had to have a bike cosigned by a friend back in 2001.. because I had filed bankruptcy in 1998.. (x wife is a crack head) and had good credit since then. I could get financing at normal people's rates for everything.. except motorcycles.. no one would touch me with a 10 foot pole.. lol So.. you must atleast have a good credit score.. :)

Back and forth between passion and sensibility. Doesn't help me a bit.

I know what I 'should' do. Very different from what I 'want' to do.

Ah well, another day of dilema.

Crazyman, listen to the sensible voices in your head. Your passions will be met in due course. If not, Xanex will take care of both the voices and your passions.

One more thing ... if I made decisions based on the fear I’d die tomorrow, I’d be broke or in prison by now. Part of the economic problem we’re experiencing right now stems from our infantile desire for immediate gratification.

When we finance the present, we sacrifice our future. Only the banks do well with that formula.

I too want a lifestyle I can’t afford. Who doesn’t? Crazyman, me thinks you’re on the right track.

Hey Spongy Rider,
I don't live in "fear" I am going to die tomorrow, but live life in the knowledge it's a possibility. Somehow the statement "if I made decisions based on the fear I’d die tomorrow, I’d be broke or in prison by now" followed by a tag line of "Life is short - soak it up" doesn't quite seem congruous.

There is yet another contradictory philosophical observation to be wheeled out - "Life is what happens while you're planning for the future".

It doesn't sound like Crazyman wants a lifestyle he can't afford, but simply a motorbike that he has to finance. If he was to then buy a 100' powerboat, a Ferrari and a Cesna Citation all on HP, then I would say he's living a lifestyle he can't afford.

If you don't have to rob a bank to get the money, and aren't risking losing your house, family et al in doing it, then there's no reason you shouldn't at least consider it.

Having said that, I can fully understand where you are coming from.

That's why it's such a difficult call Crazyman. Every single one of us is different. Advice is usually only of benefit to the giver.

You have to make the call based on your own circumstances and life philosophies. (HEY, IT'S TRUE.....I FEEL MUCH BETTER AFTER GIVING THIS ADVICE :D)

I do appreciate all the replies.

I know that with the following:

DIVORCE - not yet final
Mortgage
Rent (for the apartment-pending sale of house)
Car payment
Bike payment
Loan payment
Credit card (smaller balance)

I look closely at my budget, and with all the uncertainty of the economy, trading in my bike for a better one is just not a good thing right now.

I at least have a bike to ride (and a nice one at that). I just occasionally get the urge to do something irrational. That is partly why I am in the predicament I'm in.

I just have to wait.

PeteOz, you’re right. “Fear” was the wrong word.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”. But then I doubt Mr. Gandhi had a 401(k), car payments and a mortgage. He didn’t even have a Rocket.

No offense to Mr. Gandhi, but I like this one better, “The long view sharpens the short view”. I don’t know who first wrote that phrase, but it’s kept me out of bankruptcy AND prison.

Crazyman, you don’t sound so crazy to me. I’m betting you’ll be straddling a Rocket before too long. Best of luck to you.

:) Can't argue with any of that Spongy Rider, especially the last sentence. Rotsa Ruck Crazyman.

Gandhi didn't own a Rocket ??? How can that be ???? I now know why he went on a hunger strike.

Sorry Crazyman, i missed the bit earlier about you going through a divorce........that changes everything.
There was a guy once who didn't know what to get his wife for her birthday. A good mate told him that since they had been fighting a lot lately, maybe he should give her a divorce. "No way", he replied, "I wasn't going to spend THAT much !!"

Pete

LOL Good one Pete!!!!!

Crazy - Wait till after the divorce. Get the house sold. In the mean time start scouting around for a buyer on your scoot. Once that payment is gone, divorce settled, house sold (hopefully sooner than later), you should be able to get a handle on the financing.

I am not in the position you are but I have waited 2 yrs for my conscience to finally make the decision. Finacially for me buying the bike can be justified as I can ride it almost 6 months out of the year as a daily driver. I can afford the payments and my income is solid. So point being if I dont take advantage of the best offer when I can. I may never get a bike for fear I dont deserve it or what if this and what if that. I got sick of the what ifs and decided the time was right for me. Believe me after 2 yrs Ive done the homework and have prepared well.

Now did I prepare for the awesomeness that is the rocket????!!!!!:D
