I am doing tripple filters and am thinking of cutting down the bearclaw.
I have it masked off and am planning on cutting it on Friday.
My question is has anyone running a cut bearclaw had any trouble with riding in the rain and sucking in water????
Thaught I'd check before cutting the BC.
Thanks.
Im running tripple k&n filters with a modified bearclaw and i ride my beast everyday rain hail or shine and i havent had a problem with it yet i think if u keep them oiled correctly they will be fine.
rain hail shine lol well maybe not the hail but rain or shine

Same here; they're both excellent examples. I also like the cut-out approach that Binnsy posted a while back. Decisions decisions. Just got mine under the claw for now but it seems such a shame not to show them off.
Maybe everyone with a claw cut should post a pic to a dedicated gallery. If not, maybe a sticky thread? Mitch, HF, Binnsy, others, what do you reckon?

Sure why not would be a great reference for others about to mod their claw they can fish through the designs on here and either copy or come up with one of their own
The key to cutting is having a drum sander of some kind to smooth and shape the cut edges. I cut it with a sawsall and used drill mounted drums I got cheap at Harbor Freight to finish and shape the edges. Just about anything you cut it with is going to leave an edge that will cut your hand if you ran it along the edge.
The other thing is to cover the chrome side with masking tape to protect the finish from scratches. It makes a handy place to draw your pattern onto as well.
Before the paint of course.
Also have a piece of Triumph windshield trim covering the cut.
If you notice, I followed the "line" all the way down.
That meant cutting the back attachment point off.
Not big deal just put it back on where I wanted it and
permanently attached the claw to the tank..
Took the bear claw of to mark it up for cutting - pretty much the same cut that Evil Mitch did with his. I also removed the K&N pre-filter covers (just because they look better without) and went for a shortish but fast run to see if I could notice any diference.
Noticed two things: firstly, it didn't seem too much louder - nice growl if anything; and secondly it had noticably more oomph and felt like it was pulling smoother and easier from low revs. I'm not sure if it's the claw or the pre-filters that made the difference but I'm glad I've decided to cut now - but won't go too high because I don't want the covers back on either. Can always take more off and might even end up with one like Skips! Will also shift the stock overflow to under the seat, removing what looks to be another air flow restriction. Love this thing.
Back to the knocking noise! I have an 06 Rocket and NO KN filter. Mine knocks when its cold from about 1700 to 2000 rpm's. After it warms up, the knocking is gone! What the hell?? I usually now crank and let it warm up before I head out! Whatcha think?
