Paint Colors

Rob, look into a metallic black base like say the Ford tuxedo or Toyota 208 with a candy wineberry or purple over the black base. It would come out really dark, even still almost black.

Ran into my first "gotcha" today.

Begin Rant:

The gotcha being:. There is NO consumer available product that will strip paint effectively in the USA in 2019.

All the strippers containing methylated chloride have been taken off the market.

Really nice to have products on the shelf, with tons of reviews and demonstrations showing how great they are, except, now they've been reformulated and don't do a ****ing thing to paint any longer.

All because some Darwin awardees (45) have died stripping bath tubs with it over a 40 year period, despite the label clearly saying don't stop bath tubs. ****ing nannystate mother****ers, this is why we can't have nice things. Some mental midget goes and ****s it up for everyone.

End Rant....

Time to start sanding for....days....on....end....

'Orange' paint stripper worked for me on all my spray can' black painted chrome parts like rad guards, racks etc. etc.

The Flood Company Australia » Stripping Products » citristrip

Before I knew about this I did a bronze sculture someone had painted gold real thick old paint and spray on caustic soda type oven cleaner done outside and left to soften overnight worked a treat when hosed off.

Neither will have any effect on urethane based OEM paint, at least not any effect that would be any quicker than just sanding it off. Modern epoxy primer under urethane clear is chemically very durable, which is great unless your removing it lol.

It's all good though, random orbital sander to the rescue.

That is the product used. It no longer contains Chloromethane (aka methyl chloride) in the US market, which was what made it good previously, a consumer cannot buy Chloromethane containing stripper here any longer.

Land of the free though right?

I ended up using the random orbit too, didn't take too long. Having a pre 13, I then had to deal with the alignment holes for the emblems. Just used Bondo, hope it doesn't shrink too much in the years ahead. Fingers crossed!

I don't have holes thank god. A nice surprise to find that. Indeed, I hope you never have to revisit them!
