I was out tinkering around with the bike tonight, taking ny time to look it over real good. I had a flashlight so I could look in those tight areas. Well, I happen to peer in under the claw where the intakes are bolted to the block and I see something has leaked. It appears to originate around the seal where intakes bolt to block. I'm positive it's oil. Not alot, but any amount is too much. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm sure some of you will check after reading this. I would really appreciate someone checking. Tell me you don't have this going on as well. I wouldn't have ever noticed it if I hadn't used a flashlight.

Thanks for helping.

I'm not 100% sure but my guess would be it's just Triumph not cleaning up after assembly. Mine had stuff that looked the same on the other side off the motor up round the front of the tappet cover. I gave it a good wash and it hasn't returned in 18000 klm.

i like your guess, Bruce. I'll wash it off and keep an eye on it

When I brought my 08 home from the dealership I noticed what I thought was oil, turns out it was cosmolene left over from shipping. Although I do agree yours looks more like oil.... Think I'll grab a flash lite and go check mine out....

I washed it off this morning and rode 30 miles earlier this evening. Checked the bike an hour after and saw nothing new. Thankfully it was nothing. This is my first Triumph and my first new bike, so I'm probably being a bit overly cautious and nit-picky. Enough said, it's Miller time. Later...

Wildchild, I had a similar "leak" around the same area. At first I thought it was the head gasket. In your second picture, there is a small machined hole in the top end, above the head gasket. That is a weap hole to drain water from the indents, or reservoirs, where the spark plugs sit in on the valve cover. My valve cover gasket wasn't seated correctly around a spark plug so some oil leaked out of the valve cover, then drained throught weap hole leaving what appeared to be an oil leak on head gasket.

I have an 07 rocket and seem to have two different leaks. The first one I noticed was oil being pushed out of the final drive the second one is on the back of the motor and is running down the rear of the engine. Does anyone know how much these repairs will cost all I get from the dealer is bring it in and we can diagnose it for you.

Nate the answer your looking could varry a wee bit. First the final drive. Is the oil coming out of the breather on top of the final drive? If so its probably over full. You can either let it go until enough blows out and it stops leaking. or drain it and refill it woith the proper amount of oil. Make sure you follow the torque specifications on the drain bolt or it will snapp off. (this will suck) if its coming from the front of the final drive where the swing frame tube hooks up you have rear output bearing problems. As for the oil leak up top it will depend on whether you have the original intake plmbing or if the bike has been modified to have triple filters. This only means time on disassembly and reassembly to change the cam cover gasket if it is the bugger thats leaking anything else could be expensive like head gasket. Personally my bet is the cam cover gasket or yours has triple filters and it my be a dirty crank case filter in the back. Is the leak coming from on top or down lower on the back of the engine?

Hope this helps
