Now neither headlights or tail light work

you can get them..longer ones even which makes it easier to put the whole deal back together...i found some and just ground the heads down so they fit.....and you can put plastic or a piece of iceblock stick or something that wont cause a short in there if you dont want to put the bulbs back in and wrap electrical tape around the whole deal....

I just cut the plugs off, cut the wires two different lengths and applied heat shrink tubing.

The "parking lights" apparently are used to see if a dumb butt like myself will use them to see if the battery will discharge properly.

I can report the battery fully discharged and passed that test.

Awesome...!!

The 5amp blew after my rear wiring shorted bit I still had headlights ... are different models wired differently?
your head light are on a 20 amp fuse that also deals with the starter relay, but were your little parker light still working, I think they are on the same 5 amp fuse as tail light for when you bring the key all the way around to park position, I wouldn't mind betting that were not working when your taillight blew

The rear tyre ripped the wiring apart under the fender when I got rear ended

which would have shorted and caused the fuse to blow but if you had looked I'll bet the little parkers in your headlights also stopped working, this is the wires Les was referring to when the OP had the parkers bulb holder floating around in headlight shell
