Here you go guys, my new toy, notice I have put a Harley touring topbox on, way more comfort for the misses, all I need is the touring seat for her and we will be right, We went on our honey moon this weekend to Coffs Harbour, what an awesome ride that was, just over 1300klm's, the one bad thing was I blew another rectifier/regulator up, the auto electrician installed a bigger 35 amp one this time, do these blow on a regular basis?

Just noticed the rear tyre has an unbelievable wear pattern, it has worn through to the metal on one side only, very very strange.
 
Good looking bike. I know some will find the Apes wrong but I think I like it on yours. Top case is good to for those who need them. I am going to just get a big bag to sit on the back rest for now though.

That's the first one I've heard of failing. Sounds like this isn't the first time yours has failed. I would definitely get to the root cause of this problem. Not sure how your electrical skills are. You don't want to fry your alternator, as it's internal, and requires removing the engine from the bike :eek::eek::eek:
 
Me thinks it may be something to do with the internal apes wiring job.
I have 18" apes on my Kaw VN2000. Would not wish to come outta the hole with apes on my R3R. Be careful, Amigo.
 
I've not heard of one failing either. You need to find out what's causing it
As for your tyre wear, it's not unusual for the right side to wear more than the left on both tyres for us riding on the left (reverse in the US). This occurs mainly due to 2 things. The road camber is the main culprit but the other is the distance through corners. You always travel further through a right hander than a left hander. Roundabouts also wear the RHS more. If yours is more worn on the left, firstly that's weird, and secondly it means the bike has been pushed harder through left handers, most likely long sweeping ones. Happens to a guy I work with. He has a BMW S1000RR that needs a new rear every 6 weeks and the left side is always down more than the right because of the 'track' he really pushes it on.

What? You say the alternator is in the engine? Got to remove the engine to get to it?
 
When I first bought the bike I got about 5klms up the road before it **** it self, no power, drained the battery completely, this time I had a little warning when the abs light came on, I then hope like hell to make it to the next town, but it stopped 8klms out, lucky for me the local bike shop came out with a spare battery and we made it to there shop where they fitted the new regulator/rectifier. I didnt think the wiring in the APES would have much to do it with it but it's a starting place I spose, does anyone have a digital copy of the 2011 workshop manual they might like to share?
