twistedwhisker, I'm curious to know if you are able to ride on the sidewall with that size CT on our stock rim? I mounted a Toyo T1R about 2,000 miles ago and although I really like it, when I saw significant wear an inch and a half up the sidewall after some hard pushing in the twisties, that made my mind up to go back to a MT. There's no way I can justify the risk of riding on an unreinforced part of any CT.

I ran 205 B'stone Potenza G019 Grids on my VTX 1800s to good effect, however it was not possible to lean those bikes over enough to get those tires running on their sidewalls.

Phil, but that's the idea .... the wear on the edge rounds out the tire. lol
Tell me that the CT doesn't have more usable tread over there than that lousy Metz. In my mind the "sidewall" is the shiny part on the "side" ... those tread blocks around the edge are what the darksiders are after ... good grip and water dispersion (ok, I didn't check the speelin).
You really giving up on the tire? How did it handle? Did it feel as slippery as the metz in a corner?

Phil, Your one bad due if you lean her over far enough to run on the side wall. The side wall of my dark side (225/55 Raptor) is close to 90 degrees from the bottom of the tread. I'm dragging floor board hinges around 45 degrees.

I'm not trying to cast doubt on your word but just consider another cause for the wear on your side wall.

My wife and I are not small. And I'm not an aggressive rider. And I have some lite scuff marks on my side wall. We occasionally bottom out where the tire rubs inside the fender. I think that is the cause of my scuff marks.

So maybe your scuffing might be caused by something other than contact with the road.
At RAAV I had the opportunity to follow a fellow darksider though some twisty roads he has a 245 darkside and he never came close to running on the sidewall.

What size darkside are you running? What pressure?

Run what ever tire you want but it seams like it would be pretty tough to run on the side wall with a rocket.

WELL DR PHIL there is just no way to change a FLAT profile into the needed round profile for a motorcycle UNLESS of course you decide not to go thru any turns or twisties you know thats why they make MTS round

I beg to differ Art.
There IS a way to round off the square profile.
RIDE IT OFF through the twistys.
Lay that sucker over like ya got a set and it gets round,
I guarantee it.

How much lean angle are you talking about ? 45 degrees? More?

WELL we didnt bother to check the angle as its obvious a flat tire isnt going to work at all for us good for trikes and sidecars and SPYDERS that dont lean to turn CAR TIRES are CARS

How can you get a fully inflated tire to ride on the sidewall? It's not possible. The pegs, exhaust and controls would have to be shaved off before an R3 could possibly lean that far over. I'm staring at the bike right now .... it's not concievable.
I'm looking at the tires on the MINI .... the tread extends/wraps around the tire over an inch up the side ....

YEP I know what your talking about but I think since you have to run 28 psi so that the tire flexes and runs off the edge on to the sidewall and Im sure if you ran more psi it would be less likely to roll off the tread but then its going to hold its FLAT SQUARE profile and after riding PHILS IT feels well HORRIBLE IMO
