Picked up the new bike today. Rode it 45km to a mate's place and noticed an oil leak.

:(

Something and nothing? 'They all do that'? Any thoughts? Cheers.

Minor

its a minor problem.Your dealer will fix it, no problem. Probably a loose bolt in the oil resevoir. Gotta expect some teething probs with a new bike ....wont cost you anything...its under warranty.

I am guessing cam cover gasket as it it above the throttle bodies. Its new so keep an ey on it and call the dealer if your hooked you will probably have the 500 mile break in before the weekend is over so when you take it for the warranty check and oil change they can fix her. Either way the bike has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty don't sweat it.

Oh and since you in NZ you need to find a captain named R34ME he is in Christchurch his name is Stefan Orlita and he knows Rockets and is a good man to have work on your stead plus he cares about what he does.

Whilst it will be fixed under warranty! What a pain in the arse!!!!!!!
Now you gotta take it back to the dealer, I would rip into them...... ask for some kind of freeby to make you happy.
I think alot of the dealers out there dont do the pre delivery inspections adequately.

I have 6500klms on my roadster and found my sump bolts all lose!!! only found this because I had a slight oil leak, I just niped the bolts up and now is fine.

Funny you should say that. He gave me my pre-ride pep talk.

I'll email the pics to the dealer but, as said, I'll be back there soon enough for the first service so so long as it's not anything potentially serious I'll live with it.

Thanks chaps.

Very well may be the cosmoline protectant that is applied to the bike to combat corrosion during shipping. many have mistaken this as a leak because it burns off over the firstvfew rides. This fact accounts for the "it leaked whenI got it but now it stopped" threads.

your pics look like that

It's not an oil leak...it's cosmoline protectant heating up and running off the engine. It will go away quickly...definitely not a warranty issue or something to be concerned about. Go out and put another hundred or so miles on the bike and it will be gone.

Welcome to the club...this has happened to most new Rocket owners on a new bike.
