This is absolutely worthy of a recall.

If you haven't yet, NTSB should be notified, with your complete chronology including injuries, and the photos.

The law firm will handle that at a later point. I get to relax and heal.

Wow, glad you're OK. I NEVER take my eye off the tank when filling, in fact I hold the nozzle for the entire fill and shut it off manually when it reaches the plate. Never take my helmet off, I ALWAYS wear a jacket. but I do remove the gloves so I can get the credit card out.

They do get hot, I've nicknamed my 2014 the "Rocket III Roaster".

OP - glad to hear you came out of it alive!!

All have some skin in the blame game & all will be "looked" at.... the OP, the gas station franchise owner, Wawa, pump manufacturer, the guy who last serviced the pump, company that the service guy works for, Triumph, and the lawyers will likely think of more. And of course the insurance carriers of any and all that might possibly be determined as liable will be there. In the end, insurance carrier lawyers and a judge will likely end up determining the percentages of the $payouts$. In todays times everyone get to play, whether they want to or not. It's good that the OP got lawyer rep. soon into it.

I'll be more attentive when I fuel up from now on.

I’m glad that you survived this horrific accident. A lessons learned for all riders. My 2010 R3T also has a very shallow nozzle stop in the fill port. I have a habit of always reducing fuel flow to avoid tank spillovers. No distractions and visual alert when refueling at WAWA, never rely on the pump volumetric (gallons/liters) data display.

Glad you're ok man, sucks about the bike , never step away and let your bike fill always hold the nozzle and fill til full takes about 2 minutes on any motorbike.

I was engulfed in a fireball from a grill some years back so I know what it's like to be burned 2-3rd degree burns from head, arms and torso, it SUCKS!

I had no eyelashes or eyebrows , my forehead never ended

Could have been even worse, glad it wasn't. Wishes for fast healing and a quick settlement, hope you're back on a new bike early next year!

Out here the fuel hose vapor recovery aprons make refueling a two hand affair -on this bike- because the spout cannot penetrate deep enough to allow the hose recovery-apron to seal. It's a pain in the grass, it requires total vigilance and it will shut off flow repeatedly during the last 1/2 gallon of the fill.

I think I'll be off the bike while refueling from here on, on the sidestand so the bike leans to the left: Hopefully if a small overflow occurs it would drain to the left and not unto the headers. It's a small extra precaution, perhaps futile.

I didn't step away. I held the nozzle the whole time. That's how I got the brunt of it.

Eyebrows and eyelashes are gone but the free facial has taken years off my skin. Gotta look for the positive right?!
