My Moto Hobo life

Are you sure your axle is only 800 lb, double check by looking on axle itself rather than trailer plate. Most axles are at least 1000lb, if a dexter axle you can find 4 digit part number on the axle hub and look up rating from there. If your axle diameter is 1.5” or greater than you probably have a minimum of 2000lb rating

Since torsion flex axle rated at 1000lbs then that is your limit unless the GVWR plate on trailer is lower. Trailer framing could be rated for a lower amount if real light weight beams used. Upgraded trailer tires are always a good idea to reduce sidewall flex and helps with trailer tracking behind tow vehicle

My new Carlisle ST145R12 Radial tires for the trailer arrived on Wednesday and had them mounted.
10-ply E-Load Rated @ 1,550lbs each = overkill.

To my dismay, the right one was hitting the frame and wheel well under regular load.

After a lot of research, it turns out that the Dexter suspension is not adjustable.

The stock 4.80 Bias tire was 20.60” diameter and the new one is 21.44”.

I didnt think 4/10” on each sidebwould make a difference but they didn’t leave much space.

My only hope was that the brackets had some slop in the bolt holes to let me push them back. I noticed the left bracket was slightly different than the right.

I jacked the trailer up and put another lift under the axle and loosened the 4 bolts and was able to slide the assembly 3/16” back and that was enough to get the frame to clear the tire and both sides now have the same clearance.

It is still really tight but I think the tire pivots slightly to the rear so that will help as the back has over an inch gap.

I will check it again under full losf and compression tomorrow.

It may still rub/chirp badly on bumps and corners etc if you have torsion bar suspension.

No, checks here in the US!!

Fuzzy math error too. 660 + 240 = 900lbs after dropping 160lbs yesterday.

I removed the spare tire (18.5lbs) and a few other items and should be near 875 now.
10% over the axle rating and I can sleep well at night with that.
I am switching to 10 Ply 1,550lb Radial tires this week too.
That will reduce heat and lower chances of a catastrophic blowout plus improve handling I’m told.
I have only used a spare tire once in 40 years. I would have had to buy a jack and add More weight so I am taking a gamble and not hauling it around the country.
I have Fix-a-Flat, tire puncture plugs and an air compressor and have AMA towing.
Another option would be to hitch a ride to a store and buy a new one in some situations.
You should keep the tire with you. Everyone has a car jack of some kind that you can borrow to switch tires with on the side of the road. A spare tire is much harder to find. Just a thought.

I also gave up hope of Best Buy getting my Dell laptop repaired anytime soon so I bought a ”cheaper” Acer Aspire 3 at Walmart last night.
They had a decent sale: US$359 for 15” 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel Core5 CPU.

I've been using my phone since I moved out last month so is nice to have a bigger screen, touch pad etc.

Pity you are maybe too big for this going by your preferred color scheme and Tribal motifs to boot! ;) 😎
It is a better Orange match than your belly pan too!
