I think the axle is rated at 2,000 lbs.
The rims are stamped load max = 1,230.
I believe the tire rating is based on carrying the full load.

The tires are basically brand new Load Stars 4.80-12” but it looks like I could replace them with Load Range C Radials 990lbs each for $180/pair.

I jettisoned 160lbs today but am still overweight at around 900lbs.

I doubt I can drop the full 115lbs needed to get to the 785 spec. Maybe 10lbs if I remove some cold weather gear.

So I will either roll 100lbs heavy or replace the tires.

i pulled the tires in anticipation of swapping them with my friends 12” tires rated at 990lbs each before discovering one was 10 years old.
The silver lining was that one hub was not rotating smoothly, one Bearing Buddy was broken and the other was almost ready to fall out. I replaced them and properly adjusted The hub.
I am still going to try to order Radials as long as it’s apart and DMV is screwing me.

Fuzzy math error too. 660 + 240 = 900lbs after dropping 160lbs yesterday.

I removed the spare tire (18.5lbs) and a few other items and should be near 875 now.
10% over the axle rating and I can sleep well at night with that.
I am switching to 10 Ply 1,550lb Radial tires this week too.
That will reduce heat and lower chances of a catastrophic blowout plus improve handling I’m told.
I have only used a spare tire once in 40 years. I would have had to buy a jack and add More weight so I am taking a gamble and not hauling it around the country.
I have Fix-a-Flat, tire puncture plugs and an air compressor and have AMA towing.
Another option would be to hitch a ride to a store and buy a new one in some situations.
