Mustang seat doesn’t fit

Sorry to hear about the troubles you have had. Thanks for sharing. This is good to know. I am heavily considering a Mustang for the backrest, but will keep this in mind. I may just have to ride up there first and offer my bike as a calibeation unit for their jig before deciding on them or another option.

No problem, I think it’s important to share this stuff for the benefit of the masses.

The seat itself seems comfy but I haven’t ridden anywhere on it yet.

This is my first mustang seat, I have had several Corbins for other bikes... I went with Mustang this time as they seem to have such good reviews online and none of this stuff is available to inspect at a local supplier/shop..... to my eyes, the Corbin is better quality materials and more attention to fit and finish from what I know of them..... they are ‘harder’ but they are still very comfortable .... fairly sure they have a backrest option too

Of note, one of the factory drilled holes for one bracket had been re-drilled and there were two holes overlapping under the bracket that seat pan should have been discarded if not correct but perhaps Mustang thinks what the customer doesn’t know doesn’t matter ... a couple of the rivets holding the seat covering were a bit loose also so I replaced them... quality control is obviously lacking or they have some incompetent or disgruntled workers at Mustang - the lack of response when an issue is raised just tells me they don’t care.

as others have said you probably could just use the rear fender bolt... but I personally don’t trust tension only to hold the two pieces under stress when it’s a seat that comes apart in two pieces.... I also believe in things working the way they are supposed to

Some of this is design stuff... and if designed to be able to be used as a rider only or a two up seat then it should work as such, without the rear seat there would be nothing to hold the rider seat in place if the side bolts weren’t used.

I have made this work but I likely would have just returned it had they given me the approval to do so .... I suppose I could have just sent it back but who knows what would have happened without an RMA... it’s also expensive to ship overseas...

Buyer Beware!

If it’s a common problem one can only speculate about why they just keep selling them anyway....

I understand, but nothing is perfect. I had to tweak my Corbin a bit and the sides don’t come down far enough. You can see the ECU and some wiring!

Thanks for the feedback.

It's sad to see a lack of response from the supplier or a lack of ownership related to quality control issues. I just read of one fellow in the States (can't remember) who was having problems with his McCruise cruise control and the owner phoned him from Australia, then walked him through the troubleshooting process fixing the problem. That's what we want to see from a supplier but sadly we hear what @Rocket_Rider has gone through..... way to often.

This is the USA, you don’t have to do things correctly as long as it’s fast and cheap. Nobody wants to pay someone the correct wage for being skilled at your craft!

This is NOT an unknown issue with the seat. I fought them the fall of '16 over this issue. I bought thru a vender who listed the seat as fitting a 2015 R3T, it did not. I believe there was a seat mounting design change and the 15 and newer R3T models are not compatible with the seat brackets. I sent the seat back to the vender. I did talk to Mustang and they verified the issue. This topic has been discussed on this site before. Good luck

One way around this, is to send your seat pan to a custom seat vendor, and presto, perfect fit when you get it back.

new issue - went for first run with seat and engine light is on? any ideas whats happening? is it a change in the under seat ducting/how engine is breathing?

Good time to visit your friend with TuneECU or Dealer Tool to read the code - saves some guessing.

yep... I have tune ecu and a lonelec cable so will be checking.... interestingly the light has gone out now, I popped the seat off with the bike running and the light immediately went out. but it hasnt come back on at idle so will see when i ride home from work.... its all a learning experience!
