Mustang seat doesn’t fit

BTW. Great seat, did some 1000km (about 666 miles) day trips with it. They only should not mount the brackets on monday.

If it were me I would cut the bracket, weld on some new metal and drill a new hole.

Recently purchased A Mustang dual seat... problem the mounting brackets to bolt to the bike don’t line up... anyone had this issue and how did you fix it? I have contacted Mustang too... but as I am in Australia I really don’t want a two month turn around to get a replacement

Hi all,

So I still haven’t got an adequate response from Mustang....and I can’t gelp but wonder if they delayed so it’s outside their RMA procedure of needing an RMA acceptance within 10 days of delivery... I did talk to them and send images but they didn’t respond after that... they may eventually but I couldn’t be bothered waiting any longer.

So,

Drilled rivets in brackets, used double sided tape to get brackets in right spot after having filled the holes with heavy duty bog, re-drilled and riveted... voila, seat now fits... it’s a tight fit as the brackets are really not a great fit even when aligned but it works. Pictures attached to show how I did it for others reference...

So be warned, if you have a late model touring and buy a seat from mustang you’ll be modifying it I guess.... or sending it back.

I recognise they’ve been around a while and a lot of people talk about how good the company is but that just wasn’t my experience... in future I’ll go to Corbin or elsewhere....

The Corbin only bolts in one spot. The rear fender. Good news is I don’t have to remove the bags to get the seat off!!
I think if you have a rear fender mounting hole on the mustang, that would be enough??

I just use the rear bolt ,have not had a problem.

How much did the 2-sided tape affect the vertical adjustment? Did you leave it in place when riviting or remove thus causing the brackets to be 1/8” closer to seat? I am wondering if that caused more downward force to be required when aligning the bolt holes?

The double sided tape is pretty thin... I left it in place... I had to push down on seat a little to do up the bolts... the brackets are barely tall enough... the design is a bit poor in my opinion... specially when spending that much on the seat

Sorry to hear about the troubles you have had. Thanks for sharing. This is good to know. I am heavily considering a Mustang for the backrest, but will keep this in mind. I may just have to ride up there first and offer my bike as a calibeation unit for their jig before deciding on them or another option.
