I have had two r3 touring bikes, first an 08 and after that was written off I now have an 09, love the bike but both had same issue they missfire at lower rpm throttle settings, dealer doesnt seem to be able to figure out. Bike runs great otherwise, I am trying things, I actually tried lower octane fuel (89) and it runs better. Has anyone else had this issue?

I've got an 09 and the only time I've had a misfire was when the dealer installed a tune for standard pipes when I run TORS. Worth checking?

I am not 100% on this but there where modifications done at 09 previous models had numerous problems.. Ign coils, plug heat range and Iridium plugs are recommended..

I was judt considering maybe your 09 madel has all or some of the earlier parts fitted, the reason I mention this is because my 05 had a engine upgrade kit fitted and the Ignition coils and plugs where part of the upgrade..

other than this AFR rich runnung and plug fouling is one of many other issue that could be causing a misfire..

Sorry cant pinpoint for you..maybe someone else can elaborate..

I was just considering maybe your 09 madel has all or some of the earlier parts fitted, the reason I mention this is because my 05 had a engine upgrade kit fitted and the Ignition coils and plugs where part of the upgrade making it equal to the 09 mods made by Triumph..

Yeah..it doesn't need higher octane fuel ;)

Is it miss fire or detonation?

Check all coil connections to make sure they are crimped tight. Clean contact areas and lubricate with Dilthium grease.

I have never heard of any problems with the 08 and 09's misfiring.

I have had my 08 now for 3 years and never had a problem like that.

Best of luck!

My 2010 R3R has been misfiring the same. Took it to the dealer, they said there had been bad fuel about and asked if I had filled up at a BP at my last fill, which I had done. Said that the fuel pump, injectors and rail need to be cleaned $275. But the said I could mix 250 ml of methylated spirits in with full tank and run that through and I might clear the system. Check fuel filter? Good luck
