About how many miles can I expect to get on rear and front brakes, and tires on my 06 R3.
Have 6000 miles now and the back brakes and looks like there getting close, can I run them almost to when the brake pad is worn out? Back tire is about half worn in the center.
What kind of tires has anyone had good luck with when I replace them probably about 10K, I like the Dunlops.
There are now two tires avaialble for the Rocket, Metzler ME880s (stock) and Avon Cobras will soon be available. Dunlop doesn't make anything to fit our rear wheel.
My first rear tire only lasted about 8,000 miles, the next one lasted about 12,000 miles, and this third one still looks good for another 1,000 miles or so. I will hit 30,000 miles the next time I ride to work.. I rode the wife's Trophy today though.
Brake pads.. I'm needing brake pads really soon as well. This will be my third set.
You guys must be doing some Hard braking? I don't think I have had to change mine and I have 20,000 miles on my bike. On third rear tire and 2nd front tire. But running the stock type tires on my bike.
My Honey Bear preaches at me all of the time about downshifting and using the engine to do the majority of my braking. Maybe that is why I haven't had to put new ones on my bike? He preaches the same speech to me about my XTerra, but don't usually follow instruction real well there.
My front brakes lasted about about 20,000 miles and the first set of rears lasted about 40,000 miles. For some reason the second set of rears (a different brand) only lasted 8,000 miles. Rear tires last 8000 and the front about 12000, although I now run 40 psi in the front and hope to get more mileage out of them as I end up replacing them not because of tread depth but because excessive cupping.
Always keep a good eye on tire pressure especially if riding double with gear. Braking should be done using both front and rear brakes. Not only the rear as I have heard from a few HD riders.
There you have your answer to why people drive HD's, they arn't smart enought to know how to break properly using both breaks how do you expect them to know what bike to ride.
I down shift then aply rear first then front, as I aproch stop if pavment looks clean I start using more front and usaly release rear all together. at slow speeds or stop and go traffic I don't even us rear unless i see a questionable surface.
First rear 3,600 miles
First front 11,000 miles
Rear pads 11000 miles (not quite down to the wear groove)
Front pads still about 50%
Dark side goodyear Eagle F1 7,400 miles and still looks new
