Metzler Tire Prices!!!!

screw in the rear

my metz got a screw in the rear sligthly off the contact patch must have picked it up in a turn I guess ,lucky me it did not deflate so I made it home and next day to the shop for some bad news first and I would agree the local manager ex racer told me to forget about fixing with patch or plug because the heat and distortion on a bike tire particularly the rear woul pop that plug in the worst of time and I could deflate real quick so after thinking do I want to keep this damocles sword over my head while I ride ..nope so we put on a new Avon cobra $450. 00 not kidding you . see the pictures , that is one expensive screw !!!
so all you captains south of the border do not feel so bad if you consider the high prices practiced statesides,compared to canadian prices.

That doesn't look too bad, if there is alot of tread left you might want to just patch it while its off and put it back on next time. As stiff as those tires are, there is little chance a properly installed patch would give out there. My first Metz got a knarley jagged nail in the sidewall in the first 1000 miles, I plugged it and ran it till replacement time at 8000 miles with no trouble. If they were floppy tires that actually went flat-flat without air, I might have doubts about doing it. But this tire is so **** stiff that even without air it retains it's shape, reminds me of a runflat.
 


so you think I could patch the metz and use it again it had only 5000 miles of mild riding.
it would certainly offset the price I paid for the new one.

The concern of most is patching the sidewall, personally I don't have a problem with that anymore. Old floppy tires ... yes, I wouldnt patch, but performance tires today have such a stiff sidewall that they just don't flex in folds like they used too, your photo of the inside is not even on the sidewall. If the screw went in the side, it looks like it came out near or under the tread. It punctured the air tight liner in a safe spot to patch from the inside. forget about a plug, just have a nice patch done and save it for later. Those tires are too expensive to just toss out for patchable leak. Since you have it off the bike, go ahead and try to compress the sidewall, you'll see what I mean about stiff. I've ridden home on a Metz with zero air pressure, it's hard to tell they are flat.
 
monday morning I will go to the shop and retrieve that rear metz and patch it the screw did enter on the treaded part not on the side so I will keep it. here is a picture of where the screw entered the tire the shiny stuff is epoxy I put on and held with a finger till it hardened just so the next day I could make it to the shop ..it worked

Hi gang
Just had a front and rear fitted at Stratstone Triumph Wolverhampton.
They appeared competative at £336 ride in ride out, wheel house £340 for Avons and the Two wheel tyre centre £390 for metz or Avons ( Busters and M & P £ 300 delivered no fitting ).
One draw back it took the tossers 5 hours to do the job yes 5 hours

Question, do you think I should have the 10K service done there??????

we replaced our bike tire, the rear, with a car tire! rides better an handles better, you will get more miles out of it an its over 100 dollars cheaper!
