Manifold

What is on the other side of that spot weld? That's what I would like to know, maybe they just tacked another piece of metal to it to make a dead air space to help with heat transfer to the rider. But I do believe it could have been buffed out before assembly.

Its probably a cover to hide the crap welds on the flange :)
 
I figure out what the spot is. Marylin had one too.

Unfortunately there are too many high range brand new models from any brand with similar and even higher price than the new R3, with more visible marks on the manifold and that the manufacturer would consider as normal.

I'd refer as an example to the brand new BMW 1250RT that I have tested and whose manifold turned brown and purple from the first miles (when I tested it, it had only 3000 miles)...In comparison the 2 small spots on the R3' look to me really minor... :

And by the way I would have never noticed those 2 spots without this forum...unlike the 1250 RT' mentioned previously...

That reminds me of 'show-and-tell' in elementary school. The teacher called Anna to come forward and explain her summer break, she did by showing a Mickey Mouse hat as the went to Disney. The kids applauded loudly.

Tommy brought up a knitted sweater. He had gone to his grandparent and grandma made him a really cool sweater. The class approved.

Then it was little Johnnie's turn. He walked to the board a placed a single dot there and turned around to walk back to his seat when the teacher stopped him and asked what that was. He said, "I don't know what it is either. But when my older sister missed one this summer, all hell broke lose..."
