Maggie valley June 2019

I confirmed with my son that I can take his Rocket but unfortunately it's been sitting a couple of years. He's been stationed at the Pentagon with about a 2hour train ride commute each way. Add a wife and our three (beautiful) children and he's just not been able to ride. He's going to drain/dump the tank and buy a new battery. I'll change the oil when I arrive. He might be off on military duty somewhere. He has oil and filter. Last time I visited we installed the EB ignition switch relay and I was able to tour the area and ride down to DC.

Just got off the phone with Rob at the Inn and they are booked. We talked quite a long time because he's also an adventure rider and we had stories to share about riding in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. He took my information and said either he or his wife would call if they got a cancellation. I hope they do. I haven't been to a Rocket rider event in years and am very much looking forward to this.

I got off the phone and said to my wife how interesting it was that I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with a guy who lives across the country, one who I don't even know, and we are talking like we are old friends.

Mike, it's settled then. We'll meet up Tuesday morning, ride part way, spend a comfortable rest night, and roll into Maggie Valley on Wednesday.

We haven't done any more planning than that. Prefer to stay off the slab if we can help it.

Oops, I just saw this note Paul. I don't know what I was thinking. That would put us there on the 19th. He mentioned some were arriving early but I just gave him the dates of 21-23 June from the first page. I'll call him back.

Edit: I just called Rob back and he mentioned the Comfort Inn as an alternative should nothing come available at the Holiday.

Plenty of places to stay Mike, you will probably get into the Motel as some will be dropping off pretty soon due to work or family commitments

That's how it is in the south. We never meet a stranger. We treat y'all like family so if you get offended by being the brunt of a joke you just better suck it up and live with it. Just one big dysfunctional family.:roll:

Yes, Rob suggested it if he does't get an opening. And as Dave mentioned, they'll probably get some cancellations. They just had one but he has 3 on the waiting list ahead of me. If not I'll try that Comfort Inn

On living in the South, we lived, that is, were stationed in Virginia for over 12 years and loved it.. I've ridden throughout Virginia and NC. A friend lives outside of Asheville so I might ride over to see him one day.
