Check a lowere bearing

[ have the tech check a lower bearing that may have been put on wrong at the factory on one side it provides for oil and if put in wrong . reversed, then it prevents oil from getting in..

I wonder if the guys at the factory are recycled US Gummit employees?

Hey, now... I'm one of those 'gummit' employees! :p

This is a bit disturbing, as I have that paint-can rattle in my '07 R3C tourer. Think I'm gonna hit up Big Twin Cycles the moment I get back home, and have 'em give it a once over. And get documentation of it so if something does happen, a quick call to them, or in the worst case, the BBB, will get it done again.

I have confidence in those guys, though. The owner of Big Twin is retired military. He hooks us grunts up!

Warranty

I hope my 2007 Rocket Classic Tourer remains well and stays that way. Having had prior experience, my 1997 Speed Triple
had to have the entire frame replaced. Apparently there where some fatalities with the front end broken off in the neck area. These where usually accidents in the UK with the riders, leaving the pub and rear ending stopped buses at around
200 KPH.

Ridin' Great, so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all, just wanted to touch base and let you all know how things are going. I have put about 1000 miles on so far. When I picked up the bike last fall, my gas mileage was about 25/gallon. Not great, but that is how the bike was when I picked it up new. As the bike is putting miles on, my mileage has gone up to almost 40mpg. It is running great and I am still **** happy that I own the bike. You always, in the back of your mind, think about the failure, however, it is still the best bike to ride, too date............

Was on a 500 mile day last Saturday, in La Crosse, WI, and was surrounded by 3 sport bikes. They were circling around me like fire flies. After watching for a couple of circles, I decided to give it hell. I pulled away and they about crapped their pants..:D...after that, they rode behind me for a while then pulled up next to me and were wanting to know what I had, I just smiled, kept riding and pulled away. It is truly a rocket...................

Heading down to New Orleans 2nd week of August, any rockets down there??????? We all should hook up and do a Rocket Ride.....let me know if there is an interest:cool:
Regards.....

Paint Can Rattle

I can't believe I stumbled into this discussion today. Last Saturday I took my R3 out for a short ride and heard a strange rattle under light to medium acceleration. I usually wear a helmet but, this time I wasn't. My bike also has Jars and so as I accelerate of course the pipes tend to over shadow most engine noise. But this time I guess because I wasn't wearing a helmet I heard the paint rattle. It appears to only make the noise while accelerating. I tried to listen for it with the clutch pulled in and it wasn't there. But under a load I could hear it. I thought maybe it had always been there until I read this article and now I'm almost certain its the timing chain thing. My bike is also an early 05 with only 17,000 plus miles. My concern is that I doubt Mr. Triumph will want to offer to repair it since it's 3 years old now.

My cam chain woes

My 2005 Rocket with 6000 miles had the "paint can rattle" after a 70 MPH ride down I-64. After turning it off, it wouldn't fire, seemed like it had no compression. No Triumph dealers near Beckley, WV, so had to trailer it back home to Lynchburg, VA. Winchester Motorsports picked it up to repair, after several calls to Triumph HQ in Georgia. Talked to the mechanic today, he said the cam chain had stretched and jumped a tooth, bending all the valves and nicking the pistons. Apparently this is a known issue with the earlier Rockets, the upgrade kit will come with new tensioner, guides, and cam chain. Also some transmission updates. The mechanic wanted Triumph to send a whole new motor, but they won't-can't do that. So I'm looking at a new complete head, pistons, and upgrade kit. Luckily, I bought the Rocket as new from Millerbuilt in March, so it is all covered under warranty. And so far Winchester seems to know what they are doing.

Geez, Bobby K. My Roc is up there at Winchester right now having the cam chain tensioner replaced as well. Just waiting for the parts to come in. I had to talk to the mechanic a couple of times to get them to acknowledge the "paint can rattle" scenario. I guess yours coming in finally convinced them that it's a known problem.

How many miles on yours? The guy who picked mine up last Thursday (Brad) said they had just got another Rocket in the previous day with the "rattle". I guess yours was still running....
