Lower Timing Chain Blew-up!!!!!!!

Just over 15k miles. The rattle has been present for the last 3k. Happens on a cold start up in between 1500 and 2200 rpm. Goes away after warm up. Just like many others have reported.

Talked to the mech again today and he reported that the cam chain was so loose that he predicted that I would have had the same failure as Bobby K very soon. Hopefully he can get the parts in and installed soon.

You guys are in good hands... Roger @ Winchester Motorsports is very competent in rebuilding R3 motors.

Well, it's been a month and Winchester has some of the parts in, but still waiting on others. It was 80 degrees yesterday, and 81 today. I so miss my Rocket! :(
On the plus side, I believe they have the parts for Tdragger and will have him running again soon.

Have not read all the threads so please forgive me if I'm repeating something already said. One year ago almost to the day (10k miles) I took my Rocket in for the paint can rattle, under warranty. Dealer replaced cam chain and lower cam chain gear. Earlier this year the noise came back getting worse with time. With 18k miles and 9 months out of warranty I call my dealer with the problem. Dealer calls Triumph. Triumph informed them that they had added some parts to the upgrade. So now my Rocket is in the shop getting new blades and a tensioner upgrade added on. I was told that the tensioner upgrade was just adding a spacer to it to appy more pressure to the blades. Triumph is taking care of it, parts and labor, oh yea I have an 05 standard. On a side note, Triumph came out with new tunes last week to address the decel popping. I am having the new tune added to mine, let you know how it comes out. I'm just running TORs with empty cat box.

:) Picked up my Rocket from Winchester on the 6th of November. Parts took 4 or 5 weeks to recieve, then the mechanic had a factory class for a week. Took him a week to repair, but I told them to take their time because I wanted it right. Rode it back home 180 miles door to door. Bike ran great, transmission shifted very smoothly. The mechanic, Matt, took the time to explain to me all the repairs and show me the old parts. Engine needed new head, pistons, rings, valves, cam chain, tensioner, cam chain guides, cam chain sprockets and key (Matt said sprocket was tight and keyway undamaged). Transmission needed several redesigned gears and thrust washers. Output bearing was replaced, mine was in backwards. The fuel sending unit was replaced too, now lights up at 175 miles. I was impressed with Winchesters attitude and work, just wish they were closer. Very pleased.

Matt talked me out of a 3000 mile trip that may have left my Roc in the same shape as yours. I'm glad he did. He probably practiced the cam chain and guide repair on mine before tackling yours. Like you, I wish they were a little closer. They are 100 miles from here in Fredericksburg.

Good to hear that you got your baby back in good shape.

Engine noise.

Been down that road unfortunately. I have a 05 with only 6000 miles on it. I dont use it much because I can only stand about an hour of vibration through the handle bars before I can,t feel my fingers in the right hand. Not to mention the oil the gets thrown out the breather on the diff housing( no its not over filled, yes it does have the correct oil). My engine started to sound like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin after about 5800 miles. I have no cat and the short Triumph pipes on it so at best its a noisey bike. I ride it fairly hard whilst I,m road testing a new double thick leather glove on my right hand and a regular glove on the left. the noise started to get worse, and after I had convinced myself that the noise was real AFTER ONLY 5800 MILES on their flagship model, I took the steaming pile to the dealer. They informed me of all these problems that the motors and trannys were having. Because my bike was out of warranty by nearly three years, I had to pay for the Labor, but the parts were on the house. I received the bike back In January, rode It once everything was great. I havent touched it since. It still has only 6078 miles. I have yet to discover a glove that can cure the vibration through the bars. Dont get me wrong its a great bike and I enjoy using it to tie the dog down.
