I now have 2600 miles on my new bike which had it's initial, and so far only, oil change at 600mi. I checked it the day after and it was right in the middle on dipstick indicator. Then at 1600 the level was about 1/8'' below the middle so based on @stingray 's input I added 200ml which brought it 3/4 of the way up. Now at 2600mi the level is right in the middle which tells me that my bike consumes roughly 150ml/1000mi. The oil color is a nice amber and there are some dark traces on the paper towel which is probably left over breaking in gunk and also maybe partly due to the clutch judder I had experienced which is now fixed. I'm doing an oil change this coming weekend and will most likely continue to do so every 3000mi, the 10K oil changes that Triumph recommends seem a little ridiculous.
I don't think having to add a skoch of oil here and there between changes is unreasonable.
Did you check the level soon after that service? It sounds like (if I'm understanding correctly) it was good before the service and then quite a while after that the level was really low. Could the service department failed to put in enough oil?
Mine, btw, uses oil but I think it's because the first owner didn't break in the bike properly. If my guess, above, is incorrect that would be a strange thing to happen suddenly well after the break in period.
