Like most things cost is king . . . tradeoff between support, cost, reputation, and so on.
Remember the efficiencies of scale manufacturing and typically they make an educated guess at how many will be needed, make those, then sell them to folks who have a warehouse in the desert somewhere where inventory is not taxed and can afford to let stuff sit on the shelf forever (or ten years, whichever comes first). I have NO/NO idea what Triumph will do -- one would hope they have over-produced parts for this scenario. I mentioned in the "clock" thread that I ordered mine from Hermy's in Pennsylvania and when it showed up, it appeared it had been on the shelf (of a dusty place) for ten years.
I really like the china set (Wedgwood) we got for our wedding many moons ago, and thought it would be nice to have two sets, one to hand down to each daughter. The pattern was discontinued a few years later (Runnymede Blue) and turns out there's a place in North Carolina that has the old stock of a number of manufacturers and we were able to obtain a set.
