Looked at the Nomad 1700

I remember when I got my 2001 Kawasaki Nomad Classic at 1500cc's. I thought I was getting something big and bad...it was quite the opposite. It wasn't a bad bike, ran great but the top end was a lot lower than I thought it would be, I doubt it broke a hundred unless it was going downhill.

As for the 1700, since it is 200 cc's bigger I imagine it would be a little better on the top end than my 1500 and one advantage is that it does come with a lot of accessories as standard. But if you are looking for a big HP rush, I don't think it will qualify.

If there are two legitimate beefs against the Rocket it is lack of cruise control (especially on the R3T) and lack of ABS, which apparently is being solved with the arrival of the Roadster and the new R3T.

As far as the comment on the minivan aspect of the "tourer" type of motorcycle, don't knock it unless you have tried it. The Gold Wing is huge but for the size of bike it is, as I have said plenty of times before, it is plenty fast, comfortable, does have the cruise control, your passenger will thank you profusely and don't knock a stereo on a long trip unless, again, you've tried it. I like traveling without tunes as well but it is nice to turn on some music every now and then to break up the long hours on the road. Sometimes on long trips it's nice to have options...you can always turn off the cruise control off and mute or turn off the music.

Agreed,

And like I said in my original post I would'nt trade the R3T for the Nomad, Mainly because of the fittment issues I had with it. but beyond that Its not a bad bagger at all.

My dealer also sells Road Star's and let me take a 1700 while my RIIIT had a rear tire being put on. Power felt like a RIIIT with only one cylinder firing. Nice bike for a Jap, (yes I'm anti-Jap bike), but after a Rocket, power on anything less is not exceptable. I do have a dyno tune through the TuneBoy, and love it, which ignites all 140 CI's. Read an article in Bagger magazine(primarily HD mag) recently that said about the RIIIT "It commands respect instead of demanding it". This statement hit the nail on the head, as I hang with the HD groups, and my bike has commanded their respect. Now to discuss a Kawi on a real motorsickle forum, there is NO comparison. People like this piss me off. Merry Christmas!

Real Motorcycle enthusiast has the ability appreciate all brands and models of bikes. And is not ashamed to admit that there is more to the motorcycle world then just the bike they ride.
No affence but its starting to sound like you've been hanging with the HD crowd a bit to long.

Just curious,
where's is your car made or better yet where do you think it was made. Not to mention your TV,Stereo,Fridge oven, dish washer, I POD, Cell phone etc. etc.

I gotta lell ya, I never did understand that hole (I hate Jap Bikes thing) when dam nere everything in our lives is inported from somewhere.

I have a couple of friends (HD riders) that absolutely hate the sound of the word Metric yet one of them drive a Beemer and the other a Camry, Go Figure:D lmao.

So don't HATE bro, at the end of the day it's just not worth it.

Gotta agree with CTCruiser here. I rode a Kawi 1700 before I bought my R3T and it wasn't something I would consider buying. I didn't care for the handling or the lack of power for the weight it carries. It had nothing to do with its country of origin.

I've owned bikes made is several countries over the last 48 years and really don't understand the bias. And since my wife is Japanese, I really find the Jap comments to be rather offensive.

That said, its a free country and you're certainly free to express your bigotry is any manner you choose. I'll just choose to ignore it in the future.

Merry Christmas.

Yep, your ignorance is showing, Stick. My last "Jap" bike was made in Marysville, Ohio and it had about 40% more American components on it than nearly any of the bikes you seem to revere...Yeah, that's right, my rice-burner was more American than the poseur's special, Harley Davidson.[no offense intended to any riders on any brand - there just happens to be way more phoney baloneys riding the orange and black than any other brand)

You see, it ain't at all about what you ride, it's all about that you ride! Jawas, Benellis, Ariels, Bultacos, Husqvarnas, BMWs, Hyosungs, Jiangsus or even Confederates, now made in your home state... who really gives a rat's ass where your bike is made (other than real afficianados)?

Smarten up, Dude! It's always been and always will be just about having your knees in the breeze. If you don't see it that way, well, more's the pity for you.

Still a v-twin.
Not impressed by it at all,
just another clone.
The Thunderbird now, thats different.
I REALLY liked the six speed on that thing.
Just not enough to buy one new.
I'll wait and let somebody else take the hit,
and score one in a year or two used.

It's indeed just another clone. And its peak power rated at 75 HP is about equal to that of the big Harleys. Most disappointing, considering Kawasaki hi-tech image. Jamie:cool:

Christmas Eve in Nigeria

Man right now I would ride anything that burns gas on two wheels. I am so far from friends and family, a little knees in the breeze would be a great pain killer. So many people just dream about getting their first bike and taking that ride. How the Hell can we condemn anyone for wanting to feel what we feel on whatever they choose or can afford. Oh to the brother with the Japanese wife, sorry I am guilty of that crap too. I am not a fan of political correctness at all, but I have been guilty of being and inconsiderate bastard a time or two. As far as getting pissed off about topics on this site, well I have spoken about politics, religion, add ons, and my Kawa Vulcan. I really enjoy this site, even when I disagree with someone, and I would still proudly ride with most all of you guys because we are not a bunch of wanna be clones, we are free thinkers that's what brought us here. In the wind that's all that matters, Merry Christmas Wankers.

Glad I could stir up some emotions. As for the politics, you liberals support whatever countries you want, and I'll support America and it's allies. I am a rider of about 24,000 miles/year, and love all forms of motorsickles. The RIIIT is a special bike to me with the marriage of performance and comfort. I am pro America, or a redneck if you prefer, and have a strong dislike for liberals, so get out of the way if you see my bad black RIIIT in your mirror. Happy New Year!
