I have always used both never had a problem except slipping on the snow last winter just to see if she woukd fire. Not sure about the life span yet 8 years old and still kicking. I have changed a couple batteries though. Not battery tender stuff.
As a bit of an indication. I am at my mum?s in the UK. Arrived here late Thursday after alongish ride - battery brimming with electrons. Friday I was chilling - literally. Saturday - pushed the button - very slow chugging. Pulled bike outside (warmer out) switched on and left the lights on 10s. Switched off. Switched on and hit the button - span over fast & fired straight up. All the metalwork was outright cold. So yes Lithium batteries are very temperature sensitive. I still would not go back to wet batteries.

Yes, lithium ion batteries will do that, BUT lithium IRON phosphates do not. It's the IRON part of the name that people are missing. It makes a for a different chemistry and, therefore, it behaves differently.

Well ime - it makes no difference UNLESS the LiFePO4 is an A123Systems cell. I have built loads. This is a LiFePO4 battery. But NOT A123. It does NOT like being cold.
I stand corrected...barbaqris was correct, the EarthX LiFePO4 will be affected by cold; however, it still stands above all the other options as a replacement for a lead acid or other lithium batteries.
