LED light addition-small but powerful

Looks like there may be an issue getting this into the can (no dims supplied).
Let us know how your instal goes.
The light looks good and I may just get some to test versus my Daymakers.

The thickness on the new Evolution is .16 inch narrower than on the 8630, so it should fit in the can.
Only concern I would have is the electrical plug in the rear - I don't understand that puppy!
BTW - The Daymakers are now $320 each at Kutter Harley (were $300 when I bought) still a relative good price!
Please keep us posted on your progress.

Also, as I said, you can just discard the connector on the headlight and on the bike and wire it across directly. It's really foolproof but still 100% reversible. http://www.posi-products.com

Since a LED headlight is likely to last the life of the bike you won't be plugging and unplugging to replace a bulb like you would otherwise. I'm sure the Delphi connector is a great product but this is going to essentially be a one-time install.

I think that you've got the right approach.

According to the specs, the 8630 uses standard color codes for the wiring.

Ground = Black
Low Beam = Yellow. EB kit is also Yellow. Harness is Blue/Red.
High Beam = White. EB kit is also White. Harness is Blue/White.
Position = Red. Harness is Yellow.
DRL = Purple. <--- Where should this be tied into?

The DRL question is one I wondered about too. I would probably tap into the power to the fog lights/driving lights on my R3 Touring for that, but it's less clear on the R3 non-Touring. Maybe someone else has an opinion.

To get the DRL functionality, I'm going to have to add a switch and/or a relay and, hopefully, one of you wiring gurus can put me in the right direction.

I'd like to run in DRL mode but be able to hit a switch to go into normal low beam mode. However, anytime the handlebar switch is moved to High beam, it needs to go into High regardless of the state of the Low/DRL switch.

Below are the different states and switch positions. White is high beam. Yellow is low beam. Purple is DRL only.

High/Low On/Off White Yellow Purple
High ------ On ---- X
High ------ Off ---- X
Low ------ On ----------- X
Low ------ Off -------------------- X

How would you guys wire this up?

You'll find the Delphi plug is moulded into the light unit - It's not on wires. http://www.jwspeaker.com/wp-content/uploads/Product-Photo-Model-8630-EVO-6-1200x1200.jpg

Guys it's a F*cking connector - it's not rocket science.

DRL - see this http://www.mobilecentre.co.uk/images/products/JWS/8630EVO_Functions.jpg

The DRL makes sense IF you fit a lighting disabling system. I have - but more for maintenance.

ECE reg's allow for Single Tracked vehicles to run with DRL's - A lot of consumer grade single track vehicles (aka scooters) now come with DRLs.
