Is the R3 suitable for long distance ?

The main reason I don't ride my Rocket on distance runs is tire life. Did a 12,000 mile charity ride last year in 14 days with another member on here and my wife. Rocket would have needed a rear tire change in the middle of the ride. 2 years ago I did an ironbutt event on my 09 standard...3,250 miles in 80 hours so yes, you can make the Rocket suitable for distance riding and yes, you are correct about the stock seat...it sux

Just got back from a trip to Ontario Canada from Washington State. My Touring was totally comfortable. It has a Corbin seat, tall windscreen, Rivco risers, highway pegs and a BrakeAway throttle lock all of which contributed to the comfort. I'm 63, and arthritic and have been riding Sport Tourers on trips the last 16 or so years. This R3 Touring is everything I hoped it would be for long trips. Been riding nothing but Triumphs since 1971. I also have a '98 Trident 900 for a hooligan bike, an '06 Scrambler for gravel/dirt road riding and a 1975 Trident T160 for my vintage bike.

Come join us for RAA West in Washington the 15th - 21st?

This bike can be whatever you want it to be. Look back at what people used to tour on and then look at the rocket and ask again.

For me I love the look of the bike so I make it comfortable and you don’t have to break the bank doing it. Don’t need a cruise control, I use a simple throttle lock to give my hand a break, floor boards help and a saddle upgrade may be required. Personally I don’t want a bunch of gadgets and electronics, if I did I’d probably look at the wing...

The best thing you can do is take a trip that you would consider long, identify the things you would like to improve for your comfort then upgrade those components.

Good luck and enjoy the bike

I found my R3T a really good fit and great for touring with just a few mods.
I had my seat rebuilt with gel foam and fitted to my bottom. Sheep skin cover for comfort.
Xcreen on the windscreen took care of buffeting.
Using a Go Cruise to give my hand a break every now and then.
I put highway pegs on the crash bars that let me change position every once in awhile.

I have done a few 4 or 5 hundred miles days on her.

That is all I needed to do and she delivers the ride experience i want.

These bikes will never be Goldwings, but will eat up the highway miles and is fun on back roads as well.
