OK, back to cams. I heard it purring smoothly in the video, so... bolt the seat on, roll her out the door, and hit the throttle. We're waiting to hear a ride report (or did I miss that already?). Please share. Thanks

Doesn't matter at this point, but yet another AH HA moment.

I was asked to measure the dimensions of the Triumph tool and thought I was positioning the caliper incorrectly in measuring the height of the pins, and realized the pin positions are NOT/NOT symmetric.

The exhaust pin is lower than the intake, and I'm sure this contributed to my problem - I only used the tool for initial setup, and later, under the assumption that the marks should all be parallel I set the cams that way and did not again refer to the tool.

Great credit to @warp9.9 as he fitted the tool multiple times before he was satisfied the cams were where they should be (while talking us both through it, commenting he has slotted cam gears and a Carpenter-provided method of setting them).

For anyone so interested, the pins are 0.2350" in diameter, 3.4080" center-to-center, and the intake pin center is 0.6635" above datum and the exhaust pin center is 0.5600" above datum.

I also noticed that while using the tool. My theory is that Triumph offset the holes in the gears on the cams that accept the pins to prevent "people" (we know who we are) from easily fabricating the needed tool.

Figures, I never used the tool for years, bought one and found it a PITA, so now it sits in the cupboard....

I would agree if he is state side. But it's a long way down under. Still, as a Tool & Die Maker/prototype nuc. I can appreciate the attributes I see in the billet cams he supplies. In fact, after handling his Rocket-specific manual cam chain tensioner, I can say the APE unit should be renamed to "Here is some crap that would work". I will definitely put one in the Falcon. And the next time I relax the cams in the Titan I will install one in it and flatten the APE unit quicker than stink on crap.

Just my opinion so take it with a chilled pint not a piss warm British pint

Very subjective, I don't consider Dali weird, his reality is pretty close to mine.
