Tom, best wishes on your recovery. I made it through one accident and you are absolutely right, riding gear makes a difference!

Sorry to hear of your disappointment with Triumph. Fortunately for me, my experiences have been positive. Here is to coming out of shock.:)

Something doesn't sound right about the clutch deal. With an R3T I assume that you are still under warrenty. If you haven't called Peter at Triumph's Corporate American offices, you may want to explain to him your situation. You may be able to recover your costs on the clutch work. He can be reached at Customer Service: (678) 854-2010, extension 2064.

Sorry to hear about you going down. It's just one of those "oh ****" moments. Glad to hear that you were properly geared up.

I have been in contact with Peter Carleo, he denied the warranty claim because I bought the bike from a non Triumph dealer they have no idea if the clutch was "set up" correctly when I bought it.

I was promised I would get satisfaction from the corporate people that were at the dealership when I picked the bike up for repair and they put me in contact with Peter Carleo. I dont know maybe the dealer is influencing things, I have no idea, Im out the $890 and Triumph wont do **** about it. The bike's totaled I highly doubt my wife would agree to another Triumph after this experience even if I wanted another one. Thats life, it was Triumph's decision to lose a customer, but Im digressing and its nobody on this forum's fault so Il stop my rant.

Thanks for the kind words

Tom

Sorry to hear about your crash. Obviously, as others have said, the important thing is you're alive and in good shape. Bikes can be replaced. Speaking of which, assuming you like Triumph bikes, don't give up on the brand. All you have to do is read and you'll discover I'm not overly pleased about my R3T's woes the last couple of months. However, I do have a fine dealer and they've been quick to get things fixed. Also, I've had 3 Triumphs including the R3T. It's the only one that's given me any problems (knock on wood). I'm beginning to think this is just a quirky model within the brand.

Just curious, was the bike new when you bought it? And if it was, how did a "non-Triumph" dealer get ahold of one? It sounds more like the dealer had more of a hand in this than he is letting on.

And Scot...I can't believe you are laying out some cash for a windscreen. I thought that was against your religion or something.

Tom, it sounded like you were getting a raw deal from the get-go. A "non-Triumph" dealer? Were you the first owner as in did this "non-Triumph" dealer take the bike out of the crate, assemble it, and then sell it to you?

I've had cases where I've bought scuba gear from non-authorized distributers before and have been denied warrenty service. It makes sense from a manufacturers viewpoint.

I don't know how a non-authorized dealer could have sold an R3T as "new". Otherwise it would be a "used" bike and the fully-transferable warrenty would apply.

I'm pretty sure he bought the bike used. It makes no difference, however, the warranty is transferrable. It's my understanding he can't clearly show (to Triumph's satisfaction) the service history. That's horse crap, IMO. There's only one service scheduled on a 3000 mile bike and that was the 500 mile service. Additionally, a freaking clutch shouldn't break in 3000 miles regardless. Hell, mine failed at 5600 and that's ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. They fixed mine, however. I think there's more to the story than what's being communicated. Additionally, if the story being told is correct, then I'm inclined to think the dealer is up to no good. But agreed, something just doesn't add up about this.

I bought the bike used with 1700 miles on it from a Victory dealer here in Huntley. He took it in on trade for a Hammer or something like that. I brought the bike to Triumph in Janesville, WI and they ran the VIN, verified the 500 mile service had been done and completed the paperwork to transferthe warranty to me. I know they did this because I got the recall notice about the tires in the mail.

As far as the Victory dealer is concerned I talked to him today and he told me his service guys dont do much other than check tire/brake condition as they are not trained on Triumphs.

Triumph is full of **** and Im mad as hell, but I dont know what to do about it. The bike is wrecked, its gonna take something special to get me back on a Triumph.

The appraiser from GEICO just called and he is writing the bike off as a total loss. GEICO is giving me replacement cost for the bike + taxes and they are also cutting me a separate check to replace my helmet. GEICO has been incredible, in fact the appraiser told me if I had stayed in the area instead of going home he would have met me at a Triumph dealer, pick out a bike and they would've paid for it so I could continue on with my vacation. I highly recommend GEICO

As far as Triumph and their so-called warranty, Im too tired and sore to keep up with it. Peter Carleo has never returned one phone call and only responded by email once to deny my claim. If this is their customer service, f--k them all the way back to England.

Sorry to hear about your crash ,I'm glad your still with us . Last year I had a lady in a cage hang a left in front of me and I ended up hitting her, me and the bike went over the trunk needless to say my rocket was totalled . The good thing is I walked away stiff and sore with some road rash on my back and 7 stiches in my head, my neck still cracks and pops now and then but the doctor said if I would have been wearing my helmet I more than likely would have broke my neck . Helmet was on backrest and leather coat was in saddle bag ,Thank God I had on my heavy denim shirt and new jeans . Sorry to hear about your experience with Triumph , I was still covered in scabs and limping when I bought my new one a month later, granted they were both standards but I've never had any problems with any of them and my dealer gave me such a good deal I couldn't pass it up . Anyway Im glad your ok and still willing to ride no matter what ride you decide on take care.
