I said I would never do it, but...........

I have 4k miles on the darkside. I have been riding with some sport bike guys and my last Avon Cobra only lasted 3 months about 5k miles. as far as my lean angle, I still drag the floor boards on rides.

When you drag your floor boards are you on the tread/side wall transition zone...Thats what all of us "Bathed in the light" guys are talking about..You can grind some of the 90 degree angle off so its round.

In 5000 miles I use twice the cost of gas than a MT....and I still buy 93. What I am saying is it SEEMS to be a dangerous way to save money with with no radius arc when you are leaning the bike over 15 to 20 per cent...

Thats a lot of torque to impart on a 90 degree transition from tread to side wall....On a MT I will have the rear tire locked up to the pavement at any any angle till the bike slides out and the front will let go first so that is why us "DS deniers" are abundant....DO they DS V-Rods or Vmaxs?

not even going to ask what that supposed to mean, with 268 posts you need 8000 more to even consider it

The number of posts I have has nothing to do with not be willing to realize that its not worth my life to save money putting car tires on a bike that was designed for motorcyle tires.

What I meant was the money you guys are saving by changing tires 4x less often can be prepay your funeral as that much torque on a 90 degree transition from siping to sidewall is a risk you are taking to save money.

You guys want to take the risk fine....It's analagous to "hey I want to ride around with 30psi in my MR tires"...I can do it...but there is a risk.

Thats all I am saying. You do not need a Masters in Engineering or a PhD to know that a CT on notorcycles are dangerous and MT tires on a car are dangerous....

Greg, use 87 octane regular gas! That is what our R3 motor is designed for and runs best on.

I thought your post was just poking fun???
Don't make it a rant. These darkies are not dying left and right and they do save money.
I feel they are NOT near as good as the MT designed for the motor, but they do work if ridden within their capabilities.
Let folks do what they wish, some are even Obama supporters, which is WAY WORSE!
:D

Whoa! Don't blow a fuse up there in South Canada(WA)! Take ten deep puffs and relax-do not take it personal. Slap a bicycle tire on the back if you want. It is your bike and just my opinion....

BTW...I think like 70 percent of WA voted for Obama...Thanks for not!

Peace....:)

Puff and chill...G

You are new here and likely unaware of our looooong darkside history.
We have had way too many unpleasant beefs regarding this issue and I was merely trying to squelch another.
I also thought my post was NOT of a panty twisted nature. :D
Regarding your Obozo & WA crack (which is true BYW):
I then be PROUD to be a 30 percenter!!! :D

Well, my experiment is over - Darkside loses. I put on 1000km over the last couple of weeks riding 2 up and single as well as a lot of slow speed maneuvers. I spent 2 hours in a parking lot going through the drills I learned in the Advanced Rider course I took. Drills like slow speed turns in concentric circles getting smaller and smaller until you can't do it anymore. Figure 8's, weaving cones, veering, panic stops etc. All I can say is a dark side tire on this bike is like taking the power steering out of your car. When you read this thread or others on darksiding the arguments always seem to mention whether you can drag the pegs or take the tight corners. I took those corners without issue, the problems were the light easy corners. When the bike is fighting to remain upright. I can say that in all my days of riding I have never ridden tipped to one side driving in a straight line without wind being involved. Its like you had to lean bike over to a greater degree just to get it to move. A slight lean did absolutely nothing for turning ability. I have since removed my Yokohama and put a brand new Avon Cobra in it's place. My bike feels like it's lost 500lbs, that heavy slow feeling is gone. Could I have gotten used to it? Yes without a doubt, but why? I pretty much disabled my bike to try and save money, never going to happen again. It looked good on paper but it's not for me.I plan on hitting the twisties at Sturgis this year and I don't want to do it riding a bike that feels like a dump truck.

Thanks for posting your results, Zonechamp. I've been curious about this topic and you seemed to have an open mind about the topic. Haven't been been thrilled with the Metzeler, was going to go darkside but tried the Bridgestone Exedra Max first. Loving it and about $80 to $100 cheaper.
