He came to visit, we were at Skip's house ready to go for a ride, he started the bike and took off like a bat out of hell for no reason,he was pretty messed up, was out for about 10 minutes with blood coming out of bunch of places, we could see his skull throgh the 4 inch cut ath the back of his head, not counting his broken foot and ribs, on the way out he almost took Skip with him, he is an experienced rider so we started looking for causes, found the device on full lock for some reason, further expert investigations agreed that the throttle lock was the cause of the spill according to Adam

I remember it well. And the pictures. Not to mention the pretty obvious effect it had on him afterwards.
Throttle lock may have caused it but a helmet might have been a good idea…….. Just saying'.
Have been glad to see him recover.

That is tragic....When he started the bike was it in neutral and how did it get away from him? It would have redlined in neutral.

Dont know, my theory is that it was an oh chit moment and caught him off guard

Well here you go PHIL BULL has a bike that crashed with a car tire so lets see what can be found out as the investigation continues

I'm not so hung up on this one case as we've seen or heard of this before and we understand how the game is played.

We know for a fact that the different bead designs can lead to sudden and potentially catastrophic separation between a motorcycle wheel's bead and a car tires bead, as one is not engineered to work safely or reliably with the other. We also know that should an insurer or their expert witnesss(es) determine that (tire/rim bead failure) to be either the or a proximate cause of an accident, then its game, set and match to the insurer and for those injured or caused property damage(s) by the burdened (guilty) party, in this example, the rider with the car tire.

So, given what we already know, the outcome of this particular case or whether it involves a car tire as the cause is moot. Mixing tires and rims not designed to work together is an unsafe practice. Whether a darksider gets away with it or not is simply a matter of probability and statistics - basically, it comes down to luck with regard to how long you might repeat the practice before your luck runs out. Also, as a sidebar, CTs handle for chit vs a MT.

SO here we are a large touring bike Im guessing a GOLDWING with a passenger CAR TIRE going 60 -65 Mph goes into a wobble and then crashes as he tries to slow down SO here it is lets see if we can find out what happened if anyone is badly hurt or worse and what caused the loss of control any thoughts fellas ?

At speed you surely can't rule out the effect of a large screen or even excessive luggage, or a combination of factors. Fact it had a car the might just point to an owner who doesn't like to spent on safety or maintenance generally.

OK...so it is human error as when I start the bike it is on side stand and in neutral. Even if you are on the bike with the stand up and the bike in gear your HAVE TO RELEASE THE CLUTCH at "X" RPM.

I think its a tragedy for sure but the throttle lock did not spin WOT and disengage the clutch.

Sounds like there is more to than this story. I am ATGATT so I am not taking my bike off a trailer without a Helmet on. Darkside aside.....Bikes just do not randomly go accelerating off WOT unless you start the bike then go WOT.


The one I use is the one Phil referenced and you can roll off throttle easy with it on so that would have never happened to me unless I was S-faced and that is why I do not drink. S happens that becomes mysterious and unrelated to the equipment and related to operator error.
