Here is an update to my post a month ago about slow parts delivery on my 08 R3T...before anyone starts to call me a "hater" or any other term that means someone trying to stir up the crap...forget it. I love my Rocket. It is the most amazing machine I have ever owned. That goes back to my first Honda Trail 50 in 1964. When I meet my final demise, there will be a Rocket in my garage. This rant is about Triumph and the fact they won't stock the basic products here in the states to properly support the American market. Anyway...here is the story.....

Last week I rode roughly 1500 miles up the California Coast. On Hwy 299 between Eureka and Redding, the throttle sleeve broke that holds the barrel fitting on the end of the throttle cable. Actually, the small piece of plastic that holds the barrel fitting in place snapped off. I have Triumph heated grips which really don't work that great anyway so I called the dealer to buy new stock grips and a new stock throttle sleeve. These should be stock items right? wrong. They are BACK ORDERED ( I got this info from So Cal Triumph in Brea, CA) and Triumph cannot tell me how long it will take to get them. So one more time my bike sits for an estimated 4-5 weeks. Very sad. Now I can get after market Kuryakyn p/n 6236 $75 + Tax & FRT) or go with heated grips again ($240 for the set or $100 just for the throttle sleeve). But for normal stock Triumph Grips (about $15 each) it is 4-6 weeks. COME ON TRIUMPH...GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. Very disappointing.

Anyone got some old stock grips laying around?

I had the same part break on my R3T. Luckily my dealer had the stock part in stock. The heated grip part took months to arrive. I haven't installed the heated grip yet, I don't know if I will now. If I do, I'll be keeping the stock one in my saddlebag. Sounds like there may be a problem with the heated grip design. If and when I get around to swapping it out I'll take a look to see if there's any difference.

You might keep an eye on Ebay. Pinwall Cycle parts regularly parts out Rockets and they may have what you're looking for.

Sad really :( Ebay seems to be the place for parts. Lots of parted out rockets. Ya never know what you might find. Hope this doesnt happen to mine! Good Luck!

Maybe it's an east coast thing. Like "Scot" said usually we get our parts in a week to two weeks unless it is something that Triumph just came out with as an accessory for instance then it's anybody's guess. Or the people at the dealership are holding orders till they get above a certain amount so that they won't be charged shipping...could be a number of things. I can understand your frustration, I guess I have been fortunate (other than my "new" highway pegs in 08 I had to wait awhile for) in that usually my Triumph parts have come in pretty quick compared to what you have been experiencing.

Hopefully they are on their way even as we are talking about this.

Good luck,

That doesn't make sense unless Triumph ships parts from a central Whse. in the east and ships to the West coast direct from the UK. But I guess it makes sense to Triumph...take care of Home, Europe, and the East Coast and then ignore the damage a "piss poor" supply chain policy does for the Triumph's image out west....

I am such a sucker for the R3T it won't matter what they do, but I am going to ***** loudly until they fix this thing. I did pass on buying "2010" Cruiser of the Year" and opted for a new 08 VTX1800 but I needed a bike I could depend on 24/7/365. I picked up the VTX1800F brand new right out of the crate for $8900 which was impossible to pass up.

Good price...and it's still BIGGGG.
