Highway/Engine guard bars

Biphasic

I am trying to fit my new Triumph front engine guards to my 2008 R3. Can anyone tell me if I have to take the weight off the engine with a jack to undo the top bolt for the top hole of the bars because that bolt seems to go all the way through behind the radiator. The bottom holes are a piece of cake

The fitting instructions:
1/ Support the motorcycle on a paddock stand.
2/ Support the weight of the motorcycle and engine such that the front engine mounting bolt can be safely removed.
3/ Remove the two lower M8 mounting bolts from the foot control rail on the left hand side of the motorcycle. Keep the displaced bolts in a safe place in case the dresser bars are ever removed.
4/ Repeat on the right hand side of the motorcycle.
5/ Remove the front upper engine mounting bolt and locknut.
6/ Position the left hand dresser bar to the motorcycle. Retain the bar at the lower mounting locations with the two M8 bolts provided.
7/ Repeat for the right hand side.
8/ Refit the front upper engine mounting bolt, passing it through the dresser bar upper mounting points. Fit the locknut and tighten to 80Nm.
9/ Tighten the four lower mouning bolts to 27Nm.

I got the above from the instructions that came with my bars... They were on the bike when I purchased it.

Hope this helps.
I know Triumph has a web site that provides fitting instructions for parts (you have to include the part id number) But I can not find it at the moment!

Thank you for that. is there anything else I should be aware of before I go any further ??

If you have a helper and an MC/ATV jack, it's quite easy. I suppose a regular floor jack can be used with a piece of wood on it.

Have the helper sit on the bike and hold it upright. Jack the motor up just enough to take the weight off that bolt so that it slides easily. The rest was pretty straightforward on mine.

Sounds like you have the German "uber-bars" :D

Yes that's the ones. The dealer told me the only thing I needed to worry about was too much speed on tight approach angles. He said I should be okay if I come in around 50MPH. Any speed higher than fifty and I'll have to have my passenger inflate and engage the "Uber-bars" first! I hate it when she is slow in doing so and gets a blow out! Pricey repair and I lose my riding partner for a couple of weeks! ;)
