High Pitched Whine

Thanks! This has been a great group of people. I've been on the HD forum site and you just get lost amongst thousands and thousands of people and posts!

AND . . .. you wanna be lost? :?:

We'll be here whenever you wanna be recognized again . . . and you don't even have to have an R3 to be here!

Try that on the HD boards and see how much respect you get. Riding another bike and posting on the poser boards.

Sorry dude . . had to do it . . . hate to see you sell your R3 . . . beautiful machine she is too. :?

yeah, you're always welcome here...that whine...probably the classic Rocket gear sound. Just a guess?

Does anyone else experience a high pitched whine? It sounds like it is coming from the transmission. I believe it has done it since I bought it used in February, but now I am riding with an open helmet and can hear it better.

Yes. I asked the dealer where I bought mine about it after I had about 1800 miles on the clock. He said it was perhaps bit louder than usual and that I should bring it in if it got any worse, which I don't think it has. I had it in for my 10K service and the shop in Lynnwood said it was OK. I am going to compare it with some of the other Rockets at the Lake Tahoe Salvo. That whine/cam chain noise is probably the only thing I don't like about my Rocket. There really is no excuse for it. I can't hear the timing chain on any of the cars I've owned.

It is more audible when wearing a half helmet but it is probably normal. You won't notice anything like it with your new Harley. Just that great V-twin sound. I still like to ride my Electra Glide but it definitely old technology.

I actually like that "whine"...it gives the bike a unique "voice". One more thing that makes it unique. I must admit, though, that it really sounded strange when I heard it the first time, but grew to love it. I hope the tranny fix doesn't "fix" it. 8)

That figures from a guy who didn't like the movie; Lonesome Dove.

I just took mine out for a spin for the first time in about a month and have to agree with my friend Gr3ywolf. To me it has somewhat the sound that a blower on top of a GMC V-8 makes and is just part of the Rocket. Cool.

I use to hear the whine too, but since the TORS I just here that deep rumble and roar when opening her up.
Pipes man pipes...
Good riding to you where ever and what every you ride.

Cheers
