HIGH MILEAGE ROCKETS

97-2004 was my adjustment period. Did not have much to offer to the civilian world so worked some low paying jobs. Barely made enough money to eat much less own and maintain a bike. Since 05 have been working in Tulsa which is 117 miles a day. I try to ride every day. Some days not many it just is not practical due to snow or ice. The weather in Oklahoma is not that bad during the winter, cold but very seldom do we get a lot of snow. Real easy to rack up some miles. 87 to 96 both bikes saw some very long trips. The Goldwing was used daily plus three trips from V.A to C.A. not to mention half a dozen or so trips from V.A to F.L. and A lot of trips to the outerbanks in N.C. The Harley took a crap at 55,000 and required a lot of down time rebuilding it. I bought the Rocket thinking that due to the size and design of the engine it should last A few miles. So far I have not been disappointed. After reading some of the post's on this thread it looks like I may have made the right choice. Not a world record, just a hell of a lot of time riding.
 
Thanks for starting the thread @LAS VEGAS DAVE , I was wondering the exact same thing myself,personally couldn't care less about mileage on other bikes,as I have said before,decided to buy my last bike first this round. Good to know there are some high miles on these without major breakdowns,some have had bad luck,but overall seems like the R3 is a fairly reliable choice...IMHO. P.S. It takes alot longer to rack up the miles up here in the north....frigging winters
 
I see no reason the motor wont last an EASY 100K. It is very under-stressed. Built more like a car motor than a MC motor. Mine will be a keeper.
 

Your 32 miles average per day on your R3 for 11 years is very impressive!
Even if you combined all your motor miles, they equate to 38 average miles per day for 11 years.
However, this is not even close to 73 miles average per day, EVERY day for 21 years!
We all have car(s) that we drive - they don't count.

There is a 2010 roadster in Tassie that I have seen, that had 476,000 kms on it all he has done is 2 sets of clutches just plates and a timing chain and guides he just changed the chain to be safe when he did the guides and that was a while ago.
He is a long ride nutter 36,000 kms in 28 days just for the hell of it, he told me that anything under a 1000 kms in one day wasn't considered a ride for him. When I spoke to him he was trying to get 1000000 kms out of it just to see if he could, he does nothing but ride and is 65 years old.

124 miles per day average for 6½ years!
 
Yeah he moves to the mainland during the winter months just to ride in the warmer weather and to tour around. I said to him that he wouldn't get to see much just riding all the time but to him it's all about the ride, he just loves being on the road riding.
