OK, so now that I've decided to purchase a Rocket III tour model when I get back home, I am of course looking at the things that I'll absolutely HAVE to add to it to make it what I need. I'm thinking a top box is a must but I don't want to spoil the Cruiser style. So I found one I think matches the R3T best, the Tsukayu tour trunk. Tsukayu has a mounting system for the R3 but not the tour model. I wrote them and they said they might be able to help if I sent them a pic of the bike with the saddlebags removed. That's a little hard because I don't yet own the bike.
So here's the question. What does everybody think of using the detachable backrest as a start for making a custom mount so that it is removeable? If I didn't have a passenger I wouldn't have a back rest on it anyway, if I did have a passenger I won't mind having the tour trunk on there and if I'm touring on my own it would be nice to be able to take the tour trunk off and into a hotel room with me. Once the welding was done I have a great powdercoater in my home town to finish it. Do you think that the detachable mounts would support a tour trunk and gear? I figure if some of the passengers I've seen leaning against these things don't break them my 25 Lbs of gear won't. No offense to you BBWs out there;).
Another suggestion. Since I can't send them a pic, would somebody else be willing to? Or, since I have initiated the contact if you could send me a pic I'd send it on to Tsukayu. Maybe with enough interest they would start making a R3T specific mount. It really is a good looking trunk.

here is a mutazu trunk that i put on stb bike a few months ago and i have had it on mine when i was working in south ga and it works and looks great

Nice pic, How about some information?

OK, It's a decent looking trunk. How did you mount it? Did they supply a mounting kit? Is it detachable?
I gotta tell you, when I buy this bike I'm going to be VERY particular about it's looks. Probably more so than the performance (if I was looking for that I'd be looking at the standard). I'm not a big fan of the Goldwingesque tail lights on that trunk. I really prefer the Tsukayu. It's got a clean flowing line, devoid of tail lights, that matches bikes like the Nomad and the R3T.
I'd appreceate some pics of how you have that trunk mounted though. Might help and couldn't hurt.

Rainman, where did you get that and how does it mount? Can you post a picture from the front? I was thinking of getting a trunk and like the looks of that. Don't mind the lights, if I have it on I am on the interstate and anything that helps make me more visible is good with me.

Guys,
It's not that Rainman is ignoring your requests.
Him, Sweet Tennessee Babe and about 30 of our Rocket brethern are in Maggie Valley,
North Carolina this weekend for the SouthEast Rocket Launch.
I was suppose to be there as well, but unfortunately my New model TPS just arrived yesterday,
Bike goes in this morning for the install, and its a 16 hour hard ride.
So, I guess I missed this one.
I'm sure they'll answer when they get through riding and partying..;)

If your not going to take a long trip you might try the side bags that are included. They worked for me and after you get there you can empty them out and put 2 12 packs in em.

The R3T already has bags. I plan to use them. I AM planning on taking long trips. I want to do some IBA rides. I will absolutely need a tour trunk but I absolutely want it detachable.

the trunk fits on top of the luggage rack with 2 flat plats and 4 bolts takes about 5 min to put on and take off i have used the trunk on my bike when i was working in south Ga and it is water proof cause when i came back home on one trip it was raining cat and dogs for bout 300miles of the trip and nothing got wet and i believe i got more pix of the trunk under the accessory forum on this site and if you dont want to splice into your wiring harness and cant find a wreck r3 the plug for the running and stop light are the same off a triumph 955 that is what i used and made my own wiring harness so i can inter change with her bike to mine if i need to use it again

every one that was at this launce can tell you how it looks on stb bike and im pretty sure they all will have bout the same comments on it
