@barbagris they have Kevlar leggings like long underwear now. I have Australian sourced yellow ones for about US$50 when ordered as a presale through Shark Leathers here in Oz. Their presale offers come up and start about half price and gradually increase until they have the 100 min order before getting made in China or Pakistan.

Both these places charge more for black ones - go figure!

I got a pre-order undershirt too recently for AUD$99 (US$75) when they first started the order build.

Silly price for undies. - Agreed but being Kevlar means you can wear any regular or very light cotton trousers over them and still be protected with a much wider option of what you wear to wherever.

Still seems like a lot of hassle. I have an Aramid underjacket with protectors in - so I can use normal Jackets. It was in a sale you see. Hardly ever gets used.

If it's a long enough ride to warrant Fully Dressing up - Then I go Full Leather. Otherwise Multi laying is less than convenient - especially if you need (suddenly) to stop for a pee.

Just found a set of Waterproof Cotton outer/Aramid inner (full cover) with vents as well. German. Sadly only black. €220. eBay.

Kevlar lined - Perforated Leather, Gortex drop liner in between - Bib'n'braces plus Short Jacket. Not Black. One day I'll understand Google.

Yes as long as I'm moving it's not bad. When I have to stop for a while, I put my foot up on the cruising peg. I don't ride in shorts too often, but I know and accept the risks when I do. Usually I wear jeans, but I've seen how useless they are against blacktop too. Dress whatever way makes you happy, and ride whatever bike you prefer, just enjoy the ride.

I ride in shorts and sneakers from time to time. Even in flip-flops when the mood strikes. You can question my sanity, but not my experience or ability. As for experience, I've ridden since I was 5, over 30 of those years were on the road without an accident. As for ability, well like I said 30+ years without crashing. If that's not good enough, you can ask a few members on here that have been ridding with me about my competence behind the handlebars. If that's still not good enough... Wanna Race?

Dress how you want and know the risk. Down here in the south eastern part of the U.S. it can get so hot and humid that it feels like riding in a blast furnice. but I ride anyway. just enjoy the ride and Be Careful.

We (most of the commenters saying something like "wear what you want, know the risks") live in such a stubbornly independent country it's all about ourselves, making our own choices, taking our own risks.

Something I think of frequently when I see people riding without gear is how disrespectful it is to emergency personnel. They're the ones who are going to risk their lives on the side of a busy road to help us if something goes wrong. They have to continually live with the stress and trauma of what they see on the job. Then they have to work on motorcyclists who couldn't be bothered to give themselves a better chance, and give the medical personnel an easier and less traumatic job that day.

Sometimes instead of helmet laws I think we should just have an ambulance opt-out system. Wear whatever you want but if they arrive at the scene and you're not wearing gear, they leave you there.

Anyways I wondered at first how this became a thread about gear, but technically we're still talking about wear items…

I ware the best gear I can afford. Helmet, gloves, boots, heavy pants and good jacket. The helmet is the first and most important part, and pray I'm not dragged around a track. As far as first responders, Darwinism provider job security. As a rider of motorcycles, I will take responsibility for my actions, riding gear, and bike maintenance. Oh and watch out for nonthinking, texting, stupid, drunk cage drivers.

getting back to the brake maintenance. After a trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway, I found out aND has a great rear break rotor as well as HH's. just fyi. Look after the pads.
