I had this same problem I would have the head phones in and then I would have to stop to take them out so my ears could have a break. I was told about this website that shows you in video how to install small head phone speakers into the padding of your helmet. I went to www.powersportsdirectorymusic.com and there it was. So we watched the video and then went out and installed some. I must say its way better. I can hear the music and my surroundings and the best part is that my ears don't feel like they want to run off my head.
I had the speakers under the padding in my helmet conected to my ipod. The problem I had was the volume control fitted on the speaker wire restricted the volume from the ipod so the outside noise was a little overpowering. I've gone back to my buds but have to rest my ears every couple of hours as they get a bit uncomfortable.
