Bill, I used to use 2 cycle injection oil in my manometer. The viscosity slowed down any pulsing and if you were way off on start up and sucked some into the engine no harm is caused to cylinder or plug. Oh and I normally sync at 1,500 to 1,800 rpm were it really matters. The more cam a motor has the more variability you will find at idle. A quick cheat is to use wire pins or the end of a drill bit, about 0.015" in diameter, to set the idle sync screws without the motor running. Set each blade so the pin just slides under the throttle blade. Gets you really close before starting the motor.
Yamaha 2 stroke oil is a pretty blue too.
