Yes i know about the adjustments but they dont move much. Also the whole brake in thing is bs. Theres never been a study on if breaking something in easy or hard makes a difference and 120 on this bike isnt being that hard. If i wanted a bike i needed to baby i would have got a harley.

There's actually a TON of evidence to show that a very short baby period (like first 20 miles) followed by riding the balls off it will result in better ring seal in the long run.....

Summary of Carpenter break in period.... ride the **** out of it immediately.

Yes i will agree with that for the most part. A motor needs to hit some high rpms to seat the rings properly right away. The break in period is really more for a motor running a flat tappet/solid lifter cam. Also running a new motor slow right away is a good idea just to hear any abnormalities/oil pressure issues/leaks. Plus dont want to beat on a motor with all the break in lube still in the oil.
But what i was referring to was the person making a comment about going 120 in the first 100 miles. The first 50 miles were soft miles. Ive heard people say anywhere from 1000 to 10000 miles is a break in period. And those numbers is what i was calling bs on. There is certainly an initial break in. I guess i could have been more specific.

Also could i get a link to that TON! Of evidence
Thanks

No we're totally in agreement on it. First little bit be gentle and have mechanical sympathy, then have at it without being abusive. I'm sure you'll come to appreciate the improvements the Roadster brought to the table over time, it is a more refined bike since it'll have all the part updates already on it.

So have owned a 2005 for several years and just got a 2018 roadster a few weeks ago.

I'll start with the good. At first i wasn't digging so much black out until i got it. Loving it and the red stripes. Riding position is comfortable. It certainly feels lighter at low speeds and corners better. A few more options on the gauges.

The bad. The brake and clutch levers weren't meant for someone with small or normal hands and with the rounded edge my hands slip off when im pulling gears hard, sure ill get use to it. Pretty sure this one is even quieter.

And the ugly. Now its got just over 100 miles on it now. I am a bit underwhelmed at the power compared to my 2005 when it was running at its best. With out a doubt it doesn't pull as hard down low, seemed to have a flatter power ban and wouldnt break 120mph. Ive had my 05 to 145. Also on my first ride it stalled on me and has the low rpm stumble when you are lugging it and crack the throttle like the 05. Also mileage is terrible.

Now tonight unhooked the battery and let the computer readjust. It definitely pulls a bit harder and feel the mid range pull a bit more like the 05 but still barely broke 120, wouldn't quite hit 125.

So my question is, do these things come with a break in tune? I bought it it California, did they detune those for emissions? I will eventually be doing intake powercommander and exhaust.

Anyone no more about these to fill me in on whats going on. I thought these didnt have the low gear restriction.

Thanks
120 to 125 on a stock bike is about right. After Paul's three into one exhaust, Ramair, and Nev's street cams can bottom out the odometer. The lower gear restrictions have been removed but still restricted top in on stock bike. Minor upgrades with motor and suspension has resulted a fun and very reliable bike. 2015 Rocket X 55,000 miles and no issues.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The levers are adjustable, should have like four different positions. Just over 100 miles on it and already doing 120 mph...not one for breaking things in easy are you?

B.I.R.
Break it in right!
I ride it just like I will always will ride it, except I do not sustain high RPM for the first 1,000 miles.
I also stop to let it cool down frequently for expansion and contraction.
I change oil at 500 1,000, 2,000, 10,000 & then every 10,000 threrafter.
Just sayin' . . .

My break end was riding Hwy 75 from Dallas to Henryetta. Rode around the shop for about thirty miles before hitting the road home. Change the oil every 5,000 miles since then. Necessary not really.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

After the first 500 miles, I greased, wicked, WFO'd it!
