Going darkside in the next couple of weeks

On advice from the forum i just switched over the rear tire to Bridgestone XDRA-Max 240/55ZR16 and chose the Dunlop Elite3 150/80HR 17 for the front. I couldn't be happier Just my 2 cents why limit yourself.

Got any idea what kind of mileage one could expect out of that Bridgestone? I ride pretty easy but I ride a lot. It looks like I will be getting 6500 out of the Metz. which is on the high end of what most have reported, however, I have only had the bike since Labor Day and am almost at 6000 now. Hence the conundrum, I can't afford 4-5 $240 tires a year and I am having WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much fun on the beastly thing to let it sit in the shed.

As far as the handling goes I realize that the CT ain't going to handle like a new MT but on the other hand that Metz. didn't handle for poo after 2k anyway

The tire you saw on my bike Sunday was the Bridgestone......I do not have many miles on it yet....But I am going to put the car tire back on..I have about 11,000 miles on the car tire and it still looks new.....It may dry rot before I wear it out.

I run an achilles 195/60/16 on my 08 R3T...got 25k out of the first one and this time am using the achilles winter 101 which has the extra siping for traction. I run at about 29- 30 psi and find it a good tire for the price and the way I ride here in Florida...(tires-easy.com)

Went with a General Alta-max 205/60 /16 about 300 miles ago. So far so good, haven't been able to go anywhere yet. Still haven't got it broken in good yet. Cost me out the door 105.00. Going to need a front soon. For the cost, longevity of the tire and being able to break more with the back end with out sliding in a O Sh*t moment its worth a try. If you are not satisfied with it just get a regular M/C tire but at-least you will have given it a try and know for your self. Just be for warned the straight line acceleration is a blast. The M/C tire will spin a little the C/T doesn't hardly spin at all and the front end likes to come up much easier! What a blast.

There is an easy way to get all the mold release and waxes off the tire...

I try to fine a nice dirt road without a lot of gravel and do a few burn outs....I wished a few times that I had done that before I went on the ride to Maggie Valley this spring....I had 9 miles on the M/C tire when I left home. The new M/C tire slipped quite a few times when I was on the Dragon.

Now I only have a 1/4 inch chicken strip on the M/C tire

there is another way of getting the release wax off and that is to use some "prepsol" also known as"wax and grease remover" available from most Auto shops, wipe over the whole thread area thoughally with a rag the rag will be black by the time you finish, instant grip all over

I don't think that is the best tire for your bike...I know my bike is not a touring model, so there may be some differences.
Asymmetrical tread is what is on my Rocket and I love it....But I have never ran another car tire on my bike so I really don't know the difference

But......PLEASE....go to Tire Rack and evaluate each tire you are thinking of getting.....Looking at the Survey section under each tire it will give you greater info on that tires performance...

The major things I looked for was .

# 1....Hydroplaning Resistance..........A M/C will hydroplane quicker with a car tire than a M/C tire.....surface area verses weight
I have never had an issue with Hydroplaning with the Goodyear F1 Eagle G3 and I rode in some very hard rain storms

# 2....Wet Grip......... The softness of the rubber compound and the ability to stick to a wet surface
Awesome grip in the wet...I have pushed it hard in the wet while riding the Dragon.
#3....Dry Grip.......... LOL....Acceleration/ traction

and last is ride comfort........ At 34 psi mine will take your breath away if you hit a quick jump up on some bridges

The major draw backs are the harder counter steer......The wider the tire the harder it will be to counter steer......Oh.....Do not slowly ride up on a ledge at a 45* angle......Trust me on this.....Lmao

so if you are so concerned about hydroplaning and wet traction my advice would be
in the rain rather than looking for the best C/T how about slowing down !! why chase the edge of traction in the rain unless a death wish is lurking under the surface

Hi, i have a 205/60 michelin tyre and it takes a lot more effort to steer around corners. i currently have 26psi and it works for me.

I am running a Pirrelli Cinturato P7 All Season tire. Have put 2K on it, run 36psi and handles great. I have a Michelin 130/90/16 on front they make a nice combo.
