Just guessing from the symptoms described, I would think a possibility would be that the GPS values are being input to the GiPro but not leaving it. If the check engine light is throwing a code, we need to know what that code is. If it is related to the ECM not receiving the necessary GPS signal but the GiPro is displaying the gear, then the GPS resistance value is not escaping the GiPro. If that's the case, the bike won't know what gear it's in and revert to "limp home mode" and turn on the check engine light as an indication something is wrong. Could be a bad unit or could be a poor connection.

We really need to know what the trouble code is that turned on the CEL. For that, you can purchase an inexpensive interrogator with code book at harbor freight for use on bikes and cars.

You dont have to lift the tank to install the GIpro on a R3T. I just installed mine about 2 months ago. All is done from under the left side cover and faux receptacle cover. I attached mine (for power) to a PC8 block. My instructions stated to connect to a constant power source (batt) not a switched one. The newer ones say to use a switched one. Not sure what the difference is except maybe an eeprom saving the info on the switched.
I did notice a difference in acceleration and gas mileage! I like the #2 setting as it gives me a little more but is descent on mileage as well. Let us know what you find.

Yea I'm with ksquared. I just got my TORS on my 2010 R3T, and they put the triumph tune on it. I was planning on installing the GIPRO for some horsepower gain and gear indicator. Does it give more horsepower and torque or does it just keep the secondairies (how do I use the spell checker? Sometimes it is there and sometimes not.) open and eliminate the retarded timing in 1st 2nd and 3rd?

I must be missing something, and as I don't have a GIPRO that's not surprising.

What does the GIPRO have to do with the GPS connection? Does it have some sort of GPS capability?

Triumph detuned gears 1,2 and 3 for safety reasons, this is done with retarded timing settings. The GiPro makes the ECM believe that it's never in those gears and uses the programming for 4th and 5th gear in every gear. Only the GiPro really knows which gear the bike is in and displays it on the auto dimming screen.

There is no increase in overall horsepower or performance enhancements, but you do get a very noticeable 7% power increase in 1st, 2nd and 3rd that wasn't there before. If you install a GiPro you get the 7% back, and remove the secondaries for instant throttle response, the combination feels like a different bike without having to get into tuning or expensive components. It's the cheapest and easiest really noticeable performance mods you can do on an r3.

They work really well with a PCIII, Triples and exhaust should you decide to take the next steps down the road.

If you have a stock bike and really don't want to mess with the expense and trouble of juicing it up, or just haven't the need/desire for more power .... this little gadget is cheap, fun as hell and can be turned off with the push of a button.

My CEL cleared itself on way home today. Still have surging at part throttle. Still no noticeable power boost. Maybe my butt-o-meter is just too old to notice 7%.
The R3T is still a hella bike, tho, even w/o a GiPro.
I reset GiPro to #2 when I got home...see what it does tomorrow.

Later,
CW
