GiPro on a 2009 R3T

Once I located the proper coupling, the install was easy. Grounded it to an existing ground, and spilced red side to a switched hot wire. Gear indicator works flawlessly, but I did have to go thru the "learn" process. Also very easy.

Only disappointment is that performance-wise, I can tell no difference from stock before the GiPro. I currently have it set to mode #3, which is supposedly the most agressive in gears 1 and 2. But honestly, there's no discernable difference versus before the GiPro.

At this point, it looks Like I've spent $162.95 just to tell what gear I'm in.

Not impressed at this point. Maybe I just need to give it time?

Well, I've given it time, and have to say the GiPro ATRE is pretty much a disappointment on my 2009 R3T. No noticeable power increase, significant surging at part-throttle, and a pesky CEL that will not go away.

It is nice to be able to tell which gear you are in, but I've managed without a gear indicator for a lot of years. I can probably go some more.

Look for my GiPro in the classifieds; I'm taking it off this week end.
Gotta give a thumbs down to this mod.

That's weird, as I noticed a dramatic difference (front wheel off the ground).

Is there any chance that it's not installed perfectly?

+1 on Dan's post. There should be a significant difference in 1 and 2 if you were running stock before the install. Sounds like sumptin' ain't raht.

Have you checked out the cause of the CEL. Any code reader will give you the fault code. I'd suggest resolving that first.

Well, I'm far from perfect...make mistakes all the time. But the gear indicator works fine. Could it be installed incorrectly, and still have the gear indicator work right?

Sure 'nuff might be related to the CEL. I always get a CEL whenever I have disconnected/reconnected the pigtail to the instruments on top of the gas tank. CELs usually clear themselves after 10 miles or so. I just figured this CEL was from the same thing, 'cept it hasn't yet cleared. It's been 3 days, and 100 miles.

Guess I had better solve the CEL first - it's prolly masking anything the GiPro might do.

Do I remember correctly that the GI-PRO connection on the Touring is under tank?It's sometimes mentioned that when the tank is lifted that a vacuum line gets disconnected, and the bike runs like crapola till the vacuum is sorted out. Could it be something so simple? I make mistakes, plenty of them.

I would check into some other cause of your problems, you are the first to complain about a GiPro after installing one on this website. Typically it's just the opposite reaction after experiencing one, but I suppose there has to be that 1% out there somewhere.

Is there a possibility that the GI-PRO itself could be defective?

I'm following this thread with interest, as I am planning to install one on my R3T with TORS and the Triumph TORS tune.

You shouldn't get a CEL from disconnecting the instrument cluster, unless of course you turn the key on before reconnecting. And if for some reason you did happen to switch the key on before reconnecting the instruments, the CEL will reset after several off/on cycles, its not related to time or mileage but on/off cycles without the condition recurring.

And I've lifted the tank dozens of times without any vacuum line issues, so that shouldn't be your problem.
