GI Pro Gear Indicator

Can someone please help me why would you need a gear indicator?????????? newbie riders I can understand a little bit but I do not think that most Rocket riders are new riders.

Geez, man...I've been riding for nearly 40 years and hundreds of thousands of miles and I still fish for 6th gear practically everyday. Have also found myself tooling down the highway only to look down an see the revs up too high for my speed. ****, 4th gear again.

Once you've had a gear position indicator (mine on an 83 Yamaha Venture) you sure miss it when you don't.

You've got a Rocket don't you? Have you never tried to shift into 6th gear and felt like a dummy?

The Rocket could certainly do with a sixth but that has nothing to do with installing a gear indicator, if you ride a bike you should know just by feel or looking at the rev and speedo to know what gear you are in, any rider with experience will ALWAYS be able to tell you what gear he is in, could be some riders need to ride a wee bit more and learn the feel of the bike then they would not feel like a dummy.

My point is once you have rode your bike any reasonable amount of distance you know what gear you are in, when you are on the freeway at 80mph you want to move up to sixth but you know you do not have a sixth gear it happens to me as with everyone all the time but I can tell by my speed and rev counter what gear I am in. I have never had a gear indicator on a bike and as said maybe if I did I would love it in fact if i go for the new Roadster I will have one.
Out of all the members that I have met from both forums and it is quite a few I would not call any of them dummy's I would call a few of them compulsive pizza eaters (the MV crowd know who I am talking about) and a few of them just plain crazy(yes I am talking about you Steve)

If Triumph had installed a six speed gear box to begin with we would not be having this discussion or would we?

So I suppose after 40yrs on a bike and 15,000 miles in 15 months on the R3, I should hang it up and quit riding since I occasionally don't remember what gear I'm in. If I manage to find my way to the hardware store I'll try to remember to pick up a FOR-SALE sign, place an ad in the paper to sell it so I don't hurt myself. (Tie a string to my finger so I don't forget)
It's a good thing we caught this now, I might have kept riding for another 20yrs oblivious to my ignorance.

So I have a question

I have noticed a number of high performance bikes are coming out with a feature that lets you select from a menu of what I assume are engine maps. I saw a review of one recently that had four: rain, street, sport and track. I assume they put the rain option in there to reduce the chance of breaking the rear wheel loose on acceleration under slick road conditions. For those of you that have modified your bikes to eliminate the power reduction in the first three gears in one way or another, any comment on how touchy the throttle gets under those conditions? I have been impressed with the smooth injection control on my R3, which has not been modified this way. It has the Triumph tune for cat delete and TORS. The throttle in my R1100RT is like a light switch: as soon as you roll it on even the smallest amount the power comes on with a jerk. The GI Pro sounds really attractive as my next step performance enhancement but I would hate to have to deal with that situation on a bike as powerful as the Rocket.

Power Commander has something like that available to mount on your bars. It holds multiple programs that can be switched between. I can't remember everything it shows but it has handy display information too.

If the bike has too much power in poor weather with a GiPro installed, there is a button on the face of the gear display that allows you to choose between 4 settings. It can be turned off completely, turned off in 1st and 2nd or adjusted between high, medium or low advance.

OKAY ... you're right ... gear displays are stupid... real men don't need them ... only a sissy would install one ... I'll take mine off as soon as possible ... I was wrong to suggest it!

Hell, Hellfire I am ignorant as well. I have been riding on and off for over 25 years, admittedly more off than on. When I am not building chemical plants or refineries in 3rd world hell holes or training for WMD's at the nuclear test site in the Nevada desert, I am trying to find 6th gear on my Rocket . So if your not gonna be using yours can I have it. Just joking guys, I have friends that would totally laugh at a GI-pro, and thats cools they like what they like, and their bikes reflect them as individuals and thats what draws me to riding bikes and motorcycle people we all put a little of ourselves in our bikes, it makes them unique. I have never felt the need to mount a cow skull on my bike but I have a friend that does? That's probably another forum Cow skull mounting". Anyway it's my next purchase. LOL, I really like the poking as long as it's in good fun and I value everyone's opinion here so far, well except the liberal lefty's.
