Gearbox issue resolved though after 60 miles experiencing really concerning noises from cylinder head area of bike. As it happened after the first cool down after the rebuild I'm pinning my hopes on it being valve noise and it being down to the valve shims needing doing after it has all settled in.

Here's hoping once more

How many miles do you have on the bike? I also had my motor rebuilt(new motor casing). Asked if they checked valves while they did the motor work, they said that they did not get into that part of the motor. I'm not saying that your valves dont need adjustment but if they did not do anything to the head or valve portion of the motor it may be something else.

VERY FAIR POINT

Actually you are both right. Why would they need to adjust the shims. Noise sounds very valve train" Clicking/chattering in synch with rotation of camgear in heads. There's me stuck thinking about pushrod motors. Looks like it's back to the shop then.

The motor is just touching 1900 miles. Shocking isn't it. Thought it was all too good to be true and guess what ? Looks like it is!

Well the story continues. Told the problem was that the spring in the cam chain tensioner has lost its "Springiness" Me thinks Why should this happen?

Saw machine ripped down at dealers. Exhaust cam looks to all intents and purposes like it's been starved of oil also noted oil pump off the bike and on work bench.

Pointed this out to the dealer who agreed it looked well worn. Very different from inlet. Challenged a few of the workers at the dealers who all said they didn't know what the mechanic had identified but told me he'd ordered the bits. I asked what bits he'd ordered and the conversation tightened again. Why not just a spring and gaskets!

Now I'm happy for anyone to assuage my paranoia here. But beliveing that paranoia is just a heightened state of vigilance. I could take the view that I'm been fed a line.

I also accept I might be totally wrong and I have no actual or physical evidence to back up these disturbing thoughts other than the sequence of events mentioned. In which case I'm really sorry and can only put it down to having bought a new Rocket 3, which has actually spent more time in the dealership being worked on or stood waiting to be worked on than with me!!

Story continues in "camshaft condition" thread.
