2014 Rocket 3 Roadster
I have just read that 2014 Roadsters suffer from the dreaded circlip problems in the gearbox. I thought these problems were sorted out by the 2010 model years.
I purchased a 2014 model on that understanding 5 years ago and have no trouble at the moment.
Can anybody say if this is true?

Problem was corrected several years ago, but mistakes/accidents can happen. If you've ridden the bike this long, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, you are correct anything can fail. The article i read was certain that the model year 2014 was still in the fault range. It is the only time i have read that failure for that model year and i did a lot of research before i purchased that bike. One 2014 model dropping the circlip i suppose is a one off. I do tend to worry about factory faults that i would have to pay to fix so i drive it gently with gentle gear changes as you do not have to thrash these bikes due to the scary performance they give.
My bike is completely standard as it came out of the Triumph dealer.
Thanks again for any replies.

I wonder what gear box changes they made that would have corrected this problem? I see no parts that are different in the two shafts.

They did say they fitted the gear retaining circlips the wrong way round in the factory but when i compare the old and new on the drawings and photographs the difference is tiny. Just a small rounded edge on in side of the clip. We will never know the full facts. I also wonder if they are driven hard with hard fast gear changes the the gearbox cannot cope with it. Drive it gently and maybe it would be ok?

Yes thats correct, the circlips do infact have a rounded edge and i can see how putting on wrong would be an issue if slammed, the dog is heavy, way heavier than 4th gear and i can see how it dislodges it when, if maybe, hit a little to hard. The transmission shafts i had spirolox installed when cut because i do hit it pretty hard sometimes at redline and downshifting sometimes chasing hooligans like dr. d, sparky, journeyman, rainman, crazystagehand, all hooligans, you gotta have strong shafts😬

Yes, i agree. you do not need that thrash these bikes, they are scary enough.

I have a 2015 that's heavily modified and I ride it like I stole it every time. Thousands of miles and no issues from the transmission. I wouldn't worry about it sir. Keep this in mind as well, we live in the US of A where we can have our bikes fixed any way we please. Meaning; there are engine gurus who can fix that anemic circlip if needed and not have to get shafted by a triumph dealer.

You bought an excellent bike. I would buy another one tomorrow if I didn't have 2 already.

Edit*** AH MAN! You are not in the US of A. My mistake. Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it.

I was in East Anglia in the summer of 1971. I had recently graduated from college and my Dad wanted me to go with him and my mother to visit the Podington RAF Base. He flew 35 B17 bombing missions(92nd Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force) from there over Germany, France, Holland and Belgium, between November 1944 to April 1945. After touring much of Europe we took a ship from Rotterdam to Ipswich, East Anglia. I am not sure if Podington is in the East Anglia region but must be very close to the western edge if not inside of East Anglia. When we visited there the main runway was being used as a drag racing strip. Some of the Quonset huts where the pilots and crews lived were still standing. After he passed away in 1981 my step-mother gave his dress uniforms to a museum in the Podington area which honored WWII flyers. My wife and I have visited England several times over the years and are fascinated by your history.

PS I did all the driving during our trip. Everywhere we went on the, "continent" we were able to rent left-hand drive cars. The manual shift right -hand drive car we rented(pretty sure it was a tiny black Morris-Minor 4 door sedan with the gear shift on the floor) in Ipswich really threw a monkey into the wrench for me. We drove a few blocks and quickly decided we would all be killed unless we got something else. We were then given a left-hand drive Ford Cortina. So, driving a left-hand drive car on the left side of the English roads required my Dad in the passenger seat to tell me when it was safe to move over into the right lane to pass cars. It was still a hair-raising drive but we survived it.
