Gearbox/clutch drama

For all those interested, the front cover is piss easy to get off without removing wheel or guard etc. I spent a total of 2hrs to get it to this point (incl draining fluids and raditor removal) and then another half hour fiddling with clutch assembly before I got to the detent/shift mechanism. I'm competent with a socket set but by no means quick with this stuff so about 5 hrs start to finish to replace a detent spring would be about right for me. Interestingly I got an over-the-phone estimate of $1500.00 AUD to have my dealer do the job...

Screens filter first then the oil pump send the oil to the filter before heading to the crank via drilling s and channels in the block. Only thing that does not go in the filter is what blows out the pressure relief valve. so your probably alright.

Glad to hear that! My next task is to pull the engine/tranny out...any advice?

Cheers Keno...All good mate, there's a list of bit n pieces I want to do so I'll take my time with it. No bike over summer is the biggest drama :eek::eek:

Move up here, Mate, it's winter!

Mate I don't think I could handle living anywhere with a riding 'season'...doesn't matter what time of year I get the big girl fixed - it'll be perfect riding weather here

I was joking of course.
Are you in the same location area as Hans?

I am about 4500k's from Hans...I think that's around 2800 of your Yankee miles...

I got your winter joke....I am resisting the urge to take you up on the offer lol...Mrs Hunt is currently in love with Canada and the north east of the US and would move there tomorrow I reckon

To be honest I just followed the manual. Its not bad but it does make you jump around sections to get it done. I have never worked on Motorcycle engines before I tore into mine. I was a little more worried since my exploding internal clutch hub was much like a grenade and bent the input shaft some .300" total indicated run out which is what seized mine. anyway take your time and the hardest bolt to find to split the case is the one hiding from view until you pull the oil pressure pump.

now as for broken bits this is what I found in the front of mine when before I pulled the sump pan

and the blower cover notice I didn't break the clutch lifter shaft on this one but could not remove it from the cover

of course I had no problem deciding what was broken in mine :) When I pulled the clutch cover it sounded like broken glass hitting the concrete floor!!!!!!!!

You will need to acquire the special tools to take her apart mostly the tool to pull the alternator off the back of the crank shaft. the special sockets for the rear engine mounts and the swing frame rally only need to be used when your going back together. Ruzzle @ruzzle made some of them nicely out of a couple sockets and a grinder I believe. You might want some of his insight.
