The Army is not so different than the Navy is or was back when I first began riding in earnest. One base Captain appeared to not like the idea of sailors riding motorcycles at all and even tried to ban them on base. (I think the CMC helped him see the error of his ways). But this captain did make it mandatory that every one who rode on base had to do the safety course every two years, and if you had done one at a previous command within that time, you still had to do one for this base before you could get your pass. ATGATT was enforced with a vengeance too. Evidently, flight boots were not authorized motorcycle boots and we would lose base riding privileges for a month at a time if we were caught not in the proper motorcycle safety gear.
